Maybe the players can sue Woody and family for irreparable emotional damage by Brick and Dick for allowing their female friends into the locker room.
Right…to me this is so obviously not a qualified candidate for our GM job. Same with Riddick. You want to talk to them and make a show of it? Fine. But these guys should NOT be serious candidates. No experience that matters to this job. Hard fucking pass
Can we pull someone from a winning culture like the Steelers or Packers? They have been consistent for decades and manage to rebuild on the fly. Bad years for them are 6-8 wins and they don't last long. They clearly have things figured out as franchises. Love to get some of those minds in the building.
Totally agree, but look at the collateral damage being in close proximity to Woody did to a GM that came from the Ravens/Eagles tree - 2 very, very well run organizations. Granted, JD owns his record, and it's not a good one at all, but I just have such a terrible feeling no matter who/what organization the next GM comes from ultimately will prove to be a failure due to the completely buffoonery from the owners box...
Come come on now, did Woody force JD to pick Becton over Wirfs or miss on all but one pick beyond top of the 2nd round, or rate Corley above Brian Thomas? Of course not. JD I think is a good assistant GM, but he cannot be in charge of all football operations. He needs to have someone above him to make the final call on most important decisions, like the role he had in Philly. He proved while he can be right some times, on the most important decisions, he needs someone else to make a call, where he just provides input. He also wasn't seasoned enough before he got here - only 4 years of senior experience. He never has a senior role in Baltimore and just a few years in Philly. I think JD needs to own his record like you said, but I do believe it is possible for someone to do better, even under Woody, and we have examples of these who did. I don't think the hope is lost, we just need to get the right guy.
I’m worried about how the advisory group to Woody is doing so far. Not much information at all is bubbling up from the media. I know is early, and I know most of the interviews will start later, after the season is over or deep in the playoffs, but we don’t really have much visibility at this point as to who could come available as a GM candidate and even HC that would a) take the job and B) significantly improve this team once and for all. I’m also wondering about Vrabel, apparently such a hot candidate for the Jets why he wasn’t interviewed already. Is he prohibited by contract to do so now? I sure hope we get this one right. Can’t wait to see the early moves after the season is over.
That's my point, JD came from solid organizations and of course he wasn't in the big chair making final calls on players there, but the poster I quoted mentioned stable teams to pluck a GM from. Woody's taint has become more troublesome the longer he's owned the team. I certainly hope he gets it right this time, we shall see...
I think they need to stick with the same approach, picking from successful teams. Now, again, JD's tenure as a senior person for successful teams was very short, only 3 years in Philly, so I want to see someone a bit more seasoned. It does not have to be an old man, but someone with more than 3 years of experience in senior role for a successful organization, who had enough time to see their boss in action and is ready to do it on his own, is who I would go with. An example would be Alec Halaby from Philly, who was in sr role for Howie Roseman for over a decade, and is still pretty young. Doesn't have to be him, but I do believe the approach should be looking at the candidates who had success either as a GM in the past or as an assistant. I certainly do not want to look at an assistant in unsuccessful organizations.
