Vrabel's almost certainly just putting that out there so that other teams will increase their interest and/or bids, since we're the only team right now that's actively conducting a search. Nothing will get the Saints, Bears, or whoever else to turn his way quicker than for him to say, "Hey, if nobody else is interested, I'll just go over there and coach that Pee-Wee team over in New Jersey." There's also the very real chance that the New England job will open up for him.

We're going to be settling for a third or fourth rate candidate during this cycle. Vrabel, Johnson, whatever other names are popular, they're not coming here. Just wait, by mid-February, when we've been turned down by everybody, the search for our version of David Culley will begin in earnest.

Ryan Day Ohio State HC, he can bring Brian Hartline with him as OC.

Swing for the fences. That would also turn around Garrett Wilson’s attitude by the way

On a loosly relevant and different note, regarding a GM and CS, the Steelers have a consecutive winning record of about 16 seasons I believe. Should we possibly ever be so lucky. To think the fans wanted Tomlin fired.

I don't think we'll ever have to worry about that being something that happens with the Jets.

EXACTLY!!! Why does everyone think he is such a hot commodity now when last year no one even wanted him? Same with Belichick - had to settle for a College job and even called the Jets to gauge interest before giving up on the NFL. I mean nothing changed. He is now a consultant for the Browns who suck - not saying it is his fault, but certainly there hasn't been anything to raise his stock. He is certainly a lot better than what we have (I mean anyone would be better), but he will only go as far as the OC he hires. People give him credit for taking his team far with Tanny, but it was Arthur Smith who worked with Tanny, not Vrabel. Culture changer - sure, but if he does not win, there won't be any change. The question is how to win?

And to me we need to have good Defensive and Offensive coaches to do that plus a competent GM. The roster needs a few tweaks, so if we get someone who is not a total doofus like JD, we should be able to get the missing pieces. QB situation is something we have to address of course, but let's even assume Rodgers is coming back with Davante just for the sake of argument. Who is going to be calling plays? If we hire offensive minded head coach, then he will. Look at Monken's resume. 6 seasons in NFL as an OC, 4 of them top 10 offense in yards, 3 top 12 in points. For two different teams. Then was the OC for Georgia winning two national championships with shit QB. If this guy calls the plays for the offense, I would expect the production to skyrocket. And I am sure we find a decent DC too - he can probably bring an assistant in Baltimore who will do a better job than Brick. I mean Shanahan has no issue getting a good DC every year even when coaches like Saleh and Ryans leave. Similar concept applies to Ben Johnson and Joe Brady.

Now if we hire a defensive guy like Vrabel, who will be the OC? This is a massive gamble. He literally hired Downing before, the same guy we have now. Will he hire someone like this again? I mean he did hire another OC that failed after Downing, and then a year later got fired. This is last two OCs he hired that failed. This is exactly why Vrabel got fired to begin with. Smith left, and he could not find a good replacement. Why does anyone think he will do better than his last two OCs with us? He may or he may not. Massive, massive gamble to bring this guy after last two OCs he hired failed. Without a top young QB already in place I would not go Vrabel or any other Defensive coach route.

As I predicted on here months ago, Pete Carroll is back in the game for an NFL HC gig.

    https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...eahawks-coach-pete-carroll-interest-bears-job

He expressed interest in the Bears job because he knows they have an extremely talented cast there on offense. Also doesn't hurt that their QB is a former Trojans Heisman trophy winner so there's that connection.

Carroll can have any opening he wants. He's too damn good and proven for any organization to resist. The real question is which job would he show interest in. Well we just got our first answer and it's the Bears.

I said back in October that Woody should go fly out to see Carroll in LA asap. But again, the Jets don't operate like that and this was never in their plans. They're such fucking morons. He probably would've declined this shit show but we don't know that because they never tried. I'm here predicting that Carroll would be a great candidate if he wanted to get back into the game and here we are two months later with him showing interest and you better believe it will be mutual. At least swing for the fences, Jets. The worst a guy can say is no. This Jets franchise is maddeningly stupid and lazy.

He'll be the Bears HC imminently and they're going to be a playoff team for years to come. Book it.

While I agree he probably would have told the Jets to pound sand, you NEVE KNOW. Stranger shit has happened and who knows if he wouldn't have been interested. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. The actions of a "silver spoon" kid handed everything to him on a platter.

Yep Woody botched that whole thing. Carrol would have taken the job midseason. Rex would have too.

If they hired Carrol they probably could have demoted Saleh to DC and then let Carrol figure out who to replace Hackett with. This would have improved the defense and the team as a whole.

There's absolutely no way that a HC is going to take a demotion to coordinator with the same team midseason. If they'd wanted Carrol or Rex midseason, Saleh would have still been fired and the defense still would have plummeted off a cliff, like it did.

Most sports fans and media “analysts” are emotional and incompetent. They wanted Tomlin fired, ravens fans constantly want Harbaugh fired, people say McDermott should be fired…. You can really tell the difference between normal human beings and most fans.

I think the Steelers streak is not winning seasons, but “not losing” seasons. They had a couple 8-8 records in there, not that it really matters much.

Has that scenario ever happened in the history of the league?
