I'm happy about getting Soto, but a 15 year contract in any sport is absurd. So this guy is going to be making 50m a year until he's 41. This is a deal that's going to be great for the first half of it but eventually they are going to be paying the piper when he's 35, declining, and still has 6 more years on the deal. Don't get me wrong, this is great for the Mets and their short term future, but I can easily see this becoming another Bobby Bonilla contract. Hopefully Pete will take a hometown discount and the Mets can sure up their pitching. But then again, if the Mets win a title, I don't really care about long term contract implications. Win a title and the deal is worth it. Win more than 1 and it's all gravy. I can ride that high for a while since it's been so long.
Yankees do both themselves and the Mets a favor, signing Max Fried away from the Braves. Personally, I would have been much more impressed if the Mets had signed Snell and Fried than I am with them signing Soto. I still think that the Dodgers are the best team in baseball, and signing Clay Holmes certainly doesn't ease my fears about the starting rotation.

I like Marte alot... He's kinda the "straw that stirs the drink" imo. Seems like a great clubhouse guy too, I hope they keep him.
Agreed, that makes sense. Marte is getting up there in age and he gets hurt a lot. Makes sense to replace him with a younger guy.
There were four free agent first basemen with WARs over 4 (in fact, over 2.5), and three have signed (Walker for three years with the Astros, Santana for one year with the Guardians, and Goldschmidt for one year with the Yankees). Only you-know-who is left, and it sounds like teams aren't buying what Boras is selling about him. Is a return of the Polar Bear to Queens imminent? Four years for $100 million, say?
