Two realities here are at play. One is, run it back with Rodgers next year. The other is start over and rebuild once this season is over. Rodgers' QB play has improved as he's gotten healthier. He'll win a few games with this CS. No one knows how he'll mesh with the next regime.

Woody is stingy enough to run it back completely with Ulbrich/Hackett/Downing/Carter next year as to avoid that dead cap charge. Any wins Rodgers gets will be pretty much meaningless as this team still won't be relevant in the big picture. Question is, what is the goal.. Wins or really becoming relevant again. Huge question as it calls into question the viability of the organization.

The other option is to cut Rodgers, eat the dead money and start over with an entirely new Regime in place along with a bridge QB, New Offense being installed will take several seasons. Long term, this is probably the best option but I'm not sure Ownership has the patience for a true rebuild. Especially if his sons are acting GMs.

The business side of this says run it back, pay Rodgers to be the bridge QB. Now you're risking getting a new Regime in here as nobody who is anybody in the NFL world would take this job WITH Rodgers on the roster. How much money would it take to bribe a quality GM/HC to walk into this circus knowing they'll still have to deal with "The Legend" calling the shots and teenagers acting as advisors to the Owner...

It's up to Woody to choose and he'd better choose wisely. Perhaps leave his Madden/GM kid out of this adult decision. He fucks this up? He'll lose the entire fanbase and the NFL will have no choice but to intervene. Lets see what Woody decides. This should be his last chance at redemption..

I don't even know where to begin with the Jets this offseason. The first thing they need to do is get the new GM/HC hired. What will the new FO want to do. Try and win next year or begin the process of a rebuild. You know this will be discussed in great detail with potential new GM's and HC's during the interview process. Rodgers has looked like his old self these past two games. If the goal is to compete next year, then bringing Rodgers back makes sense. I doubt you will find a better option for next year even though he will be 42.

There is no competing next year. That's the problem here. The Jets are so far off from competing. They need to gut the hell outta this and start new.

Enough of this half ass competing BS. They said that this year and it's been 4 months of unwatchable pain.

Enough band aids. Rip the thing off and start fresh. Having Rodgers here next year is far from a guarantee of a .500 team let alone a playoff team. Just look at this year for reference.

And I'm not directing this at you as much as I am all the people who have been saying this same shit on here and the media. This franchise is broken.

Rodgers has played two horrible teams the last two weeks and that's why he's looked good whn there's nothing on the line and he's playing like it's a picku game because there is zero pressure in a horrible season.

We are so close to winning with Rodgers. We just need a couple things

    new GM
    new HC
    new OC
    new DC
    new Kicker
    better run defense
    better run game
    better pass defense
    better TE
    better slot receiver
better safeties to stop big plays
    Buffalo to decline
    KC to decline
    Baltimore to decline

if we can get all those things in one offseason we can win the AFC with Rodgers

I think we need to start looking up the ratings on EA College Football 25 this year to build our big board.

Tons and tons of things to criticize Woody about. Being stingy is not one of them. The guy has shelled out tons and tons of money for veterans to replace the poor draft picks our GM’s have repeatedly made. He’s a moron of the highest order, but he’s not stingy or cheap.

I used to think that too but the stories coming out are just a lot of smoke now and it’s not stingy with player contracts, it’s stingy with all the back office stuff that is not directly on the field but certainly impacts wins and losses. Hearing about not staffing training camp with officials like most teams do is funny until you then also see that we are one of the most heavily penalized teams in the league. Cutting staff within the scouting office is not great. I’ve never heard we have a great state of the art analytics dept. It’s shit like that. Taken individually, they may seem trivial, but stepping back it sure does paint the picture of an owner who prefers saving money over giving his team the best chance to win.

woody's reputation as a dipshit, know nothing, meddling fuck of a nepo baby will prevent any good coach/GM from ever coming to the jets.

might as well run it back

Woody burned the bridge to redemption long ago Cman.

    Jet organization is plainly adrift.

Rogers can not pull these chestnuts out of the fire. No QB can let alone one that needs to do hallucinogenics to connect with his inner soul.

2 to 3 more years of Woody wandering the world in search of an honest GM and Coaching Staff.

    Jet Fans are sadists

Tom fucking Brady, in his PRIME, couldn't win with this turd stain of an organization. IMHO, that's gospel and the ONLY thing anyone needs to know.

More like if we can get all of those things, we can finish 8-9 and this time just barely miss the playoffs.

Where do you hear all this? Players/coach/GM by far is the biggest expense - other things are minor. He gave bigger than usual contract to GM, higher side for coach, and usually at the top of players spend. I am not buying that Woody would spend on big things, but then cheap out big time on things that cost minor fraction of cost. We need to get a GM in here who would want these things, who understands their importance. I am with @NJJets on this one: dumb - yes, cheap - no.

The way I see it, the Jets are best off running it back with Ulrich and Savage for one year. Get a DC and hope for the best. Then, literally blow everything up after 2025 and have a new regime start fresh without the baggage. Please note that I'm not saying that I WANT this, but hear me out.

It's not nearly ideal, in fact it's frighteningly terrible, but there's almost no chance they get anyone worth shit in here where an entire season is absolutely guaranteed to be wasted. A new regime comes in here and has two possible scenarios:

    1. A going-on 42 year year old quarterback who, accurate or not, is perceived as a clubhouse cancer and for sure is an attention monger. He's not going to be part of a rebuild, nor should he be, so they have to go and spend more draft capital to load up for next year, only to be basically in a position to pour gasoline on the whole thing after next season...

    OR

    2. Cut Rodgers and whoever else necessary and hamstring the cap to the point where they can't really bring much in to help in 2025, thereby handcuffing a new regime. An alternative to this one, which is much worse, is to spread the cap hit(s) over a couple of years, but that's nonsensical. Better to rip off the band aid and be done with it.

With this scenarios, NO ONE reputable is coming here for 2025. You can't fire everyone and hire chumpstains, and you can't hire interim guys that you're gonna run out after a year. May as well keep the interim chumpstains that you already have and live with it

So as regrettable as it is, just get all of it over with next year, whichever scenario you decide to go with, and keep these bums for another year. After 2025, we can hope and pray for the right hire.

Of course, this isn't gonna happen and Moron Johnson is going to do the usual half-measures routine, thereby kneecapping the franchise for another half decade at least.

Woody is as cheap as they come. Not just with football either. If you don't want to believe it, that's fine but just eventually know that you're wrong.

If Woody looks himself in the mirror he might just figure out that he us the source of the team's problems.

His predecessor Leon Hess hit bottom when he fired a young Pete Carroll to bring in Rich Kotite. Kotite was so bad that both of his teams earned the number one overall pick. I am not even sure that the New Orleans Saints or Detroit Lions managed such an accomplishment.

Leon went out and got the most established and capable person in Bill Parcells to turn things around. His attempt to pretend that mumbles was really the coach cost the team valuable draft capital as the NFL saw through his BS.

Those draft missing draft picks barely slowed us down as Kevin Mawae, Curtis Martin, and Vinny Testaverde were among the.free agents our coach found when he was allowed to pick his own groceries.

Woody not only needs to find someone capable but established enough that our owner can give this person the keys with out a meddlesome owner interfering when he tries to do his job.

If we just needed a capable coach Mike Vrabel or Aaron Glenn probably as good as any. Just not sure if there is anyone out there that Woody is going to respect enough not to screw everything up.
