Bring in a GM and HC- let them decide if they should bring back Aaron, which if it were me I would. But who knows he still has to decide if he wants to play next year.

If he decides to play, work with Aaron on taking another pay cut which he said he'd be open to.

Unless we spend on Darnold(who won't come here), Aaron is the only option for being competitive next year. I understand people hate the guy personally, and his play has been average, but the defense has been atrocious this year thanks to Joe Douglas depleting the defensive line(Getting rid of Huff, JFM, and Jefferson) while also having a below-average kicker.

I understand the Jaguars have the worst pass defense in the NFL, but Rodgers was hurt most of the year. He took some pretty nasty hits in the Vikings/Broncos game and he still has been "average" enough to win a few more games if we had a competent defense and or made a kick or 2. This would be a different conversation. OH let's not forget the exceptional coaching staff which has set up this team for success!

Ideally, we draft a QB and let them sit a year with Aaron there to mentor. I trust Rodgers's mentorship much more than Tyrod's(Jordan Love)
The alternative, and most probable outcome since Woody is in charge and he is over Aaron. Get rid of Aaron, and use Tyrod as a bridge QB to whoever we draft in 2026(Arch Manning??)

The losing continues to weigh on the locker room. We begin to explore trades for Sauce/Garrett/Breece/Jermaine/Quinnen and go full rebuild once again. The Jets way!

I don't look at this as a blow it all up situation.

It looks like a quick fix, major turnaround if the right hires are made if the right moves are made AND

    Aaron Rodgers is brought back.

And I'm saying it now whoever the new GM is IF his call is to cut Rodgers loose and blow everything up similar to what Douglas did when he came in and traded away Adams, allowed Robby to walk etc. RIGHT OFF THE BAT I'll know we're up s****'s creek with him.

Tyrod Taylor starting for the NYJ.

    Yawn. Zzzzzzzzzzzz

Bad & boring the worst combo any form of entertainment can be.

The new GM better have a better plan than running it back with a 42 year old QB

The stats are above average. The only stat they point to that is below is QBR.

Do you want a QB that can throw TDs? Yes
Do you want a QB that can limit interceptions? Yes
Do you want a QB that can move the ball? Yes

Rodgers does all that. I dont care what the QBR is because clearly its not perfect.

That's not a wise way to look at it.

Sometimes in life things don't work out how we want it to when we want it to but that doesn't mean that it can't work out how we want it to later on down the road when perhaps we weren't expecting it.

Because he hung in there in yet another lost Jets season 4-10 currently I LOVE Aaron Rodgers. I'm planning on buying a Rodgers Jets jersey in the coming days and even if 2024 is it for him here (I hope it's not) I'll proudly wear his Jets jersey.

He finishes this season strong, 2024 has been a very humbling year for him, he still wants to play he still can play. He'll be as hungry or hungrier than he's ever been 2025 will be one of his best if not the best season of his career.

    I believe that.

The Jets can't give up on this guy.

I hope he goes out there these last 3 games lights it up makes the decision about him impossible for the Jets. He's capable of doing that because he's Aaron Rodgers.

Please - there is no "hate" involved in having a different opinion. That's way too weak to even be considered here.

It's great to post some stats to support an argument but I posted a half dozen or so last week that showed he's below the league average in key measurements. The Most important stat is shown in the W - L column and it's the one that nobody here needs to look up and the only one that really matters. The problem is glaringly obvious - the Jets are NOT in contention and haven't come close to contention since the Rodgers experiment began. To claim he is the least worse QB here in thirty years of lousy quarterbacking is simply damning with faint praise.

Rodgers is a roadblock to advancement for the franchise and the sooner he is gone, the sooner the mistake he represents can be corrected both operationally and financially. Saleh is gone, Douglas is gone, it is time to complete the trifecta.

That massive dead cap hit of his that could extend all the way to 2027 is a pretty big deal too.

Just not seeing how they can bring him back, regardless of play down the stretch, without tying the hands of their new GM completely behind his back financially.

Hackett is not important enough to be fired by Johnson. The new GM and the new coach will be the ones who make the calls on guys like Hackett - if Hackett doesn't pull the plug himself.

I disagree. I feel there are some defensive needs that a even a good DC will not be able to overcome. 1) The D line is too light. Need more mass to stop runs at or near the LOS. Teams that run against the Jets on first down are too often putting themselves in 2nd and short situations. When teams do that consistently it's hard to defend. 2) MLB when Moseley went down, the runs against the Jets became more effective. I don't care that Sherwood (a 211lb MLB) is among the leaders in tackles. He is not making an impact against runs up the middle.

I don’t disagree with the notion we need players on D. I just don’t think we should be spending a first on one unless the disparity between their ranking vs a comparable offensive player is blatant. We’re already overpaying for a DT. We can’t draft another in the first. Good LB’s are found in middle rounds all the time. We need a GM that can draft well in the middle rounds, and that’s where the resources should come from on D.

I in the camp that this is not a complete blow up and tear down situation. No way.

There is talent here, and young talent at that.

On offense, Olu and AVT are good…not as sold on the center but our OL is not the worst in the league anymore…I think it needs help still but not like the last couple of years. Depending on salary demands, you may be able to resign Adams at WR, and with GW you have a very good 1-2 punch there. We have 3 good RBs who can shoulder the load.

On defense, we have Q and McD on the line…if JJ comes back strong, which I think is not super likely with an Achilles, so I do think we need more DE help and Riddick ain’t it. We need a real run stuffing DT so the DL does need help. I would love to keep Reed as I think with Sauce, Reed and MC2 we have a great CB group. We need help at S (feels like we always need help there).

To me, the biggest issue was coaching, and the lack thereof.

I firmly believe that a better coaching staff would have these guys performing better. GW, Breece, Sauce, Quincy…these guys didn’t all of a sudden get worse…the coaching and motivation sucks.

A better coaching staff can build on the roster here and get wins sooner rather than later.

Aaron is the wildcard…he’s been the best QB play we’ve had in years…literally since 2015. I get he’s not the old AR, but if he wants to stay and rework his contract, especially if he wants to do it with Adams on the same team, then I can see a point where it makes sense.

I agree that Taylor is not a serious option. Bad and boring, as was said above. That’s a shitty convo. It’s like the Raiders going into this season with Gardner Minshew and O’Connell as their QB room. Before one single snap is played, you KNOW they will go nowhere. That’s us with Tyron. Our ceiling there is 4-5 games. I get AR hasn’t been good, but the fucking kicker cost us 3 games. Our D lost a couple more when AR walked off the field with a lead.

We are not where we were with Gase. There is talent here…not Super Bowl talent yet but not nothing either.

Problem is where there ISN’T talent. Other than Olu our OL is filled with old guys that are declining badly and likely won’t be here (Smith, Moses, Simpson) and young guys that suck (Tippman, Mitchell, injury ravaged AVT)…. Our OL depth is scary bad and there will be no money available to improve it. Next year is a purge year. Eat the awful cap hits and get it over with, draft well, churn up some potential future depth by playing alot of young guys next year.

W-L isn't a QB stat, it's a team state. It's blatantly obvious that the team is not performing up to snuff. I'm sorry but you don't have a 3:1 TD:INT ratio by accident. Let's be real, Jets fans have been CRAVING for a QB that can do that for more than a decade and they finally have one and want to run him out of town.

The Jets haven't been close to contention since 2015, so what are we really looking for here? Rodgers is still giving the Jets the best QB play since Penny and that's a fact, but the team around him regressed, especially the defense (thanks woody!). How many blown leads where they just let the opponent waltz down the field in OT or end of 4th?

And yes, I think "hate" is the right word. I dislike Rodgers as a person, but as a QB on the Jets, he's been decent. Has he been elite? No, but he is constantly crucified by the media with stuff that simply isn't true. It appears like Rodgers is finally getting his legs back under him and some chemistry with the team after the injury last year.

It's possible. He's got 3 more games. He could even reach FitPatrick's passing TD record if he plays like he has recently.

Two weeks ago I thought Rodgers was finished. Coming off 3 bad games in a row it just looked like it's downhill from there. But then he seems to be moving better and has two really good games. So, to me it looks like he is inconsistent more than anything. He has good and bad games. He is top 11 in some categories, #22 QBR, #10 in PFF, #26 in yards per pass. Overall, objectively give or take, he is about average.

The question is, assuming he keeps playing last 3 games average or better, who is the best option for us to start next year? Rodgers said he is willing to possibly take a put cut too, which I think will be necessary if he is to stay. But what are the other options:
    - Fields (I think a good option)
    - Carr (possible)
    - Daniel Jones (bad)
    - Cousins (do not love)
    - Trade for JJ McCarthy
    - Draft a year 1 starter (I actually do not think this QB class is great, but possible if we have a high pick)
    - Tyrod/Winston/Dalton/etc... (do not like)

These are not great option, and aside from Fields and Carr (or possibly even including them), I think we will end up with someone worse than Rodgers, in some cases a lot worse, which I do not want to do. So let's not discount him coming back, especially if that means we get Davante too. Pickings are slim.

Yeah…that’s the way to think about it. Rodgers is not the HOF Rodgers, but compared to realistic options?

    - I disagree 100% that Fields is a good option. He sucks. He is a more athletic, better running Zach. That’s it.
    - Carr is better but he’s still under contract so not sure how that’s an option unless they release him, which I guess is possible but I haven’t heard anything on that…if not released, then it would take a trade. Pass.
    - Jones is not coming here…he needs to rehabilitate his image and I’m guessing he’s smart enough to know this is not the place to do it…plus he’s been very inconsistent, and more down than up…not a great option
    - Fuck Cousins…he sucks…total stat compiler but never wins when it counts, and he already played us once just to up Minnesota’s offer, so fuck him
    - McCarthy…interesting thought…who knows what Minnesota is going to do…I’m guessing they resign Darnold but keep McCarthy as insurance against Darnold being a flash and then gone…he doesn’t cost them much so no reason to unload him
    - Don’t know enough about any draft picks other than I’m hearing there is nothing great in this class…but who knows…surprises do happen
    - then we’re down to this list of B or C tier journeyman types like the guys you mention, which excites NO ONE…if you’re going into the season with any of those guys we know it will be a 4 win year again…sick of that shit

So honestly yeah, I think AR is still the best option because none of those names are anything to get excited about and I’d doubt that any one of them gets us to the playoffs.
