Adam Schefter on X: "Statement from the Giants on the release of QB Daniel Jones: https://t.co/llrTepPF38" / X
Is there a financial benefit to releasing him now versus the end of the season or post June 1st? Otherwise I don’t get it and seems like a douchebag move by the Giants. I’m no Daniel Jones stan but they overpaid him on their own volition and he accepted. This feels like a Schoen/Daboll save-face and scapegoat.
Not sure if it's true, but I read that he had some injury guarantee upcoming (similar to Derek Carr I assume), so they made him 4th string, then he asked to be released...
I also heard reference to an injury guarantee and that the Giants were going to not play him to avoid any chance of having to pay out - kind of insane that he has made over $100m to date
All of that time and money and the most lasting impression I have of him is this meme from the week he was drafted.
Would be completely funny if Jones goes to the Eagles, Chiefs or Lions and their starter gets hurt and Jones pulls a Foles and wins a title.
Hes willing to join a practice squad because he can still switch teams apparently if he is just on the practice and not the 53. He would be best to go to a practice squad or no team at all and wait for an opportunity to come up. Not sure if he has to be signed by the playoffs but if not I'd wait till week 18 and then sign with a playoff team if no jobs opened.
The Vikings make the most sense at this very moment. It’s a good hedge for them having no suitable backup behind Darnold. The 49ers would make sense too.
