150G was my "go-to"... I've whacked alot of fish on em (and have gone through a few "5-packs" ) just ordered some 200G and 250... My buddy I fish with is old school. He's a masterbaiter and hates I use jigs (I tell him he's racist against jiggers like me ;):D) so we're usually on anchor / spot lock, so I needed some heavier ones to stay vertical.... .

It's the opposite of my other buddies I fish with. They were the same at 1st, but I fully converted them... (schooling everytone using bait, while I'm using lures will do that... unfortunately his father is in poor health and the boat is up for sale)

I do prefer to drift with lighter jigs though...

If you want snapper...This guy in pink or gold:

Next trip to the American Patriot will be in Oct. 25. I'll be well stocked by then. I'm hoping the Dolphin won't tax me too hard next year as they kicked my ass on my last trip to the GoM. I have a feeling I lost at least several Queens to those thieving bastards.. :)

So far so good. Mostly though they hit my bait rigs. Found out my crimps work very well thanks to Flipper and his gang of thieves. :)

They actually circled the boat waiting for hooked fish coming up.. Smart assed fish!

    That's because they're mammals ;)

Sure better than thinking you have a 20lb mutton snapper..... then halfway up it magically increases 10x in size and you lose your new 200G jig

Thanks for the jig info Stink. I will give them a try.

Weather off NJ is bullshit but think we will brave the seas tomorrow for Bluefin.

We are in a club Bluefin tournament till the end of Nov. At the moment, might have a window to fish Sunday too.

I did plan on going to the Colts game with Brook though…

No problem. I can vouch for those jigs....

Wish I saw that sale BEFORE I started the Xmas shopping (including myself ;-)) I still bought more. I have a disease.

Looks like Sunday is your flat day... I just finished a project and and got a kid to cover my other job on saturday. Window is slim, but POSSIBLY fly up saturday to give it one last shot sunday? Such a gamble to fly up for these tight windows....

Fished Manasquan Ridge out to Tolten Wreck. inshore my Ballyhoo were getting hammered by big Stripers. Ran out to Tolten to get away from them but no Charlie around.

Trolled back home and soon as we got 4 miles off beach the Stripers were on us.

They even hit a green widetracker we put out for shits and grins at 6 knots!

Ha. KInda glad I aborted mission.... at least it's better than your spread being torn up by bluefish

When I was up for Thanksgiving last year, Stripers so thick we got one on a big Nomad Mad macs.... I told my brother to reel in the lure when we spotted fish "damn this lure is heavy" (as he's cranking in the Int 50... with a striper at the end of it. lol

Reports I got today are that the Stirpers are hitting anything. More keepers being caught.

Eagle out of Manasquan had a 62" Blue Fin yesterday.

Heading out for Seabass and Tuna Wednesday.

    Jets Suck.

Just got back from Coxes Ledge, RI on an overnight Seabaass/Cod run on the Voyager out of Pt. Pleasant, NJ. The Cod didn't want to cooperate with us soo, we had to "settle" for drop-n-reel Jumbo Sea Bass fishing from sunup to sundown. Doubled my limit and even got 5 jumbos on the SPJ 100g silver CAT. Throw in a few dinner plate Porgys too.

Water depth ranged from 100-140ft, and the wind was a factor all day. I should have bought some 150's/200's along as the guys with the Diamond Jigs really hammered the big Sea Bass. If you're targeting BSB's, bring a Jig Rod and something in silver and you'll stay hooked up! This is my last local trip of the season so I made sure I finished up right. Still got my Mahi charter in Aruba which should close out my '24 fishing season.

Had a fantastic year though. Won a few pools, got a PB Golden Tile, fished Pulley Ridge on the American Patriot and caught enough fish to feed a small 3rd world country. :)

Yeah, 100G is too light in that scenario, especially on a headboat...

Ran to the Resor Wreck yesterday and found the Jamaica anchored on top. Sea conditions were unbelievable with light winds and 1 ' seas.

We mugged Howard and collected 40 Seabass and couple big dinner plate Porgys.

The Blue in Tuna were boiling and airing out all over hitting sand eels. We switched over to trolling split bill ballys with 3 to 4 oz jig heads.

At 11:30AM had our way way way back take off and we boated a 40?" Blue Fin.

Reset, had lines out quickly and at 12:25 had our way way way back explode!

After an hour boated a 67" 166.5 lb Blue Fin. During the end game fucker got wrapped in the running gear. We used a gaff to find the leader and hand lined it close enough to sink two gaffs in its head.

Great trip after so many frustrating days seeing them but not coming tight on them.

Hell yeah! THAT'S GREAT... I know my brother was dying yesterday. He's out of vacay days and knew how flat it would be...

How deep is that wreck you got the sea bass.... and Tuna troll?

That's roughly the same depth we crushed the Sea Bass up on Coxes Ledge. Most hit between 120-140ft.
