And Becton now plays regularly for a winning team and will be starting playoff games, with a Super Bowl ring chance. There's been greater busts than that. I stood up for JD more than most, so I'm used to looking at the glass half full. I get it. The mess we are in now needs to fall on someone other than Saleh. Joe has been eerily quiet through all this so I am not surprised. Rather than point at Becton when addressing JD's poor attempts at building on O-Line, I'll choose to look at the parade of vets he's brought in year after year who clearly left their best games with their previous organizations.

I never heard about this Baltimore house buying talk before now. Where'd that come from?

I just predicted on here yesterday that they need to get a jump on the rest of the league to find their top guy.

Well Woody got the first part right on getting rid of the trash (Douglas and Saleh) and now he needs to get the next part which is the next leader of the NYJ franchise.

    No pressure.

No self-respecting football HC or F/O type would come here while Woody is the owner - its career suicide - SELL THE DAMN TEAM ALREADY.... 25 years of ineptitude.

There's nothing wrong with trying to build the trenches.

He was well within the right in this regard. Having KEITH CARTER still employed is the issue. JD has a hand in that because he basically allowed this staff to come to fruition.

I think Becton qualifies as a player he brought in with talent. He displayed some of that talent his rookie year. Unfortunately, he was injury prone, but that can happen to any player. The no o-line was a consequence of poor QB play, which in my view is more on Saleh than Douglas. No backup QB is definitely a Douglas mistake, which I and a few others called him out on prior to last season. Letting some D line players go may have been a consequence of bringing in Rodgers where he felt if the Jets scored enough points, the D didn't need to be as strong, but also a mistake in retrospect. I didn't say he was perfect, but who is?

Doesn't matter what Becton or Darnold are doing for other teams that makes it worse, they were busts here.

Right…and a huge part of that is that our coaching has been among the worst in the league for a long long time

Darnold is interesting. His team is winning. But it’s not like he’s lighting it up a ton…he averages about 250 yards per game and he is still throwing plenty of picks. He’s not THAT different from what he was here. The difference to me is that (a) he has MUCH better coaching that plays more to his strengths maybe, and (b) he has a MUCH better team around him.

The carousel of GMs and coaches continues in Jetsland.

What's the point of doing this now in season? Why not wait to the end of the season? I mean he did everything to cater to Rodgers at what I assume was at the request of the owner? Why not just let him play out the string? I'm not happy with what has transpired with this organization but in theory on paper the team isn't without talent. Is it really his fault that these guys aren't playing up to what was expected of them?

You're gonna run it back with Rodgers next year and force him on a new GM and coach? That would just be making an unattractive job even more unattractive. I mean you would think this means that Aaron won't be back next year but who knows with this owner.

I didn't want Rodgers from jump but his tenure here has been even worse than I imagined.

obviously our problems are deeper than HC and GM. Those are the obvious targets and buck fairly stops with them, but to have a winning system you need a winning organization -- coordinators, coaches, scouting, player development, cap mgmt, strength -- everything.

We need either a HC or GM or president of operations who is all about winning. I'm thinking back to Pat Riley with the Knicks. Organization was turned upside down right down ot the smoothie maker. He instilled an identity and expectations. He was also a mercenary and a rat. But frankly i don't see how we turn things around without identifying someone like that and paying a shit ton of money to get him to turn this mess around . (edit: someone like Thibs and Rose would be awesome)

A normal, yet great HC or GM would be more than happy making tons of money for a sane organization. We need a bit of a headcase/megalomaniac who wants to prove something to the world

As a 54 year fan, just when you think you have seen the bottom lol. However, I would think that as a GM or Coach, the Jets would be attractive just because they have sucked for so long and this can be turned around. Granted they would have to have assurances of no owner (or brother) meddling to take the job but what an opportunity for someone!

Because of the GM they were busts here... Doesn't make sense to me. I mean we all know Becton is a head case and a GM should know that ahead of the pick, especially first round, but these players having good careers elsewhere says something about the staff other than just blaming the GM.

To me, this does not have to be a full tear down to the studs and trade everyone away and rebuild.

There is enough talent here to win with…we have talent at all three levels of the D…I get the shine is off the rose as so many guys like Q and Sauce are not playing up to their potential, but that is coaching and motivation. On O, we have some decent pieces on OL - still need to fix it for a longer term but it should not be bottom of the league bad there - and we have talent at the skill positions with Hall, GW, and Adams. I get Adams would need a reworked contract but if the new GM and HC want him here, they should be able to do it. The biggest wrench is Rodgers, but after seeing this mess, if he’s not down with getting rid of all of these coaches, ESPECIALLY Hackett, then fuck him and let him go…we can easily go 2-8 without him.

But if you get the right GM/HC combo, this does not have to be a 5 year rebuild again.

Yeah When you draft a guy with a 1st round high draft pick and he only has 1 decent season and is not on the team after his 1st contract that is considered a bust not a success. If he goes on to have a hall of fame career he still was a bust of a pick for us.

Better to be lucky than good. That’s the only hope we can lean on with these guys sometimes.

Former Browns GM takes over as interim... one of the few teams who can out-Jets the Jets...the Browns.
