Saleh was clearly not the guy but, to make that move so early on, it sends the message that you're giving up on the season not trying to save it. Maybe a complete meltdown is better than an 8-9 finish with no playoffs. It sure feels like this Jets team never had more than 8-9 wins in them.
Passing up on harbaugh, Carroll, vrabel, etc this offseason only to fire saleh in season may go down as the dumbest move in jets history and they had plenty
This would have happened even if Saleh was here. This team was poorly constructed from the beginning. Woody punted on the season back in January when he retained Saleh and Douglas and then Douglas set us back even further with one of the worst offseasons in Jets history. The roster, which is absolutely incapable of handling even the slightest hint of adversity, was set up to fail and went into this season with one hand essentially tied behind their backs due to poor management, poor coaching, and a piss poor offseason. As for the next coach, it doesn't really matter. The next coaching staff isn't going to make the playoffs either. Maybe we should give David Culley a call and see if he's willing to go through that situation again. I thought he did a decent job given the fact that he was clearly brought in to be a one-year scapegoat in Houston. Either way, this next coaching staff is going to be here just to hold the fort until the new GM is able to clear up the mess that Douglas has left this franchise in.
Chargers went from a 5-12 team to a 7-3 team while losing Keenan Allen and Mike Williams and more while the Jets gained Tyrone Smith, Davente adams, Hassan Reddick, Mike Williams and others, and probally wont crack 5-12 even. To think we could of had Harbaugh in the offseason to replace Baldy and fired him anyway in season is just disgusting.
It’s coaching Our roster is not a 3 win roster, but our coaching is absolutely terrible Halfway decent coaching and we are over .500
If Saleh wasn't fired and his win percentage at the Jets continued unchanged the Jets would be 4 - 7, on their way to 6 - 11. Is that something to strive for? Would that have satisfied anyone? He had to go - and so does Douglas, the sooner the better.
I got a totally different message - that it was early enough to turn the season around but Saleh had proven he was not the guy to do it. I didn't really expect Ulbrich or anyone else on the staff to be up to the task, but nothing ventured, nothing lost.
Harbaugh especially. He's the exact sort of culture changer we need. If Woody had half a brain he would've written him a blank check.
I would like Rex or Anthony Lynn. Maybe Rex as coach and Lynn as OC or Lynn as coach and Rex as DC. They are both former Jets, they both have heart, they both have a good mind for x's and o's on their side of the ball.
yeah its pretty clear that's the case. The defense, the only thing really keeping us in games, went completely out the door with Saleh's dismissal. He wasn't a savior but yeah, we wouldn't be 3-8 right now, well said
Is there a Sean Payton type of quality coach out of the game for a bit that could be tempted? Looking at the turnaround in Denver compared to what we have suffered through is painful
I’m seeing a lot of talk about Aaron Glenn, and I gotta say I just don’t get it. Yes, he was a great Jet… But to get yet another first time HC who was a DC I just can’t do it. We’ve seen this movie before. We saw Rex, Herm, Bowles, Saleh. Enough of these defensive guys and their play it close and win with defense worldviews. Nothing against Glenn, but we have to get an offensive guy who is creative.
I don’t really agree in the whole must have offensive coach or defensive coach thing. I lean offense because we’ve done the DC shit way too often and I’m jealous of the young successful offenses. At the same time, we need a good coach, leader of men, and a guy who will put together a good staff. Glenn’s been a part of fixing the failed culture in Detroit, and he would surely drag a good offensive assistant with him to run the offense where ever he goes. DeMeco Ryan’s did it and fixed the Texans. There are so many qualified options that I’d be happy with Glenn, Gruden, Ben Johnson, Kingsbury, etc. So naturally I’m sure we end up with like fucking Jeff Hafley or Wink Martindale or something.
I was listening to Boomer on the way home today and he brought up Brian Flores. I'd be all about that. He's got beef with the Dolphins and has a chip on his shoulder the size of Texas.
You act like you just snap your fingers and whatever coach you want is hired. None of those coaches want to coach the jets.
