what would it be? And while it is self-healing and satisfying to say things like "Because they are the Jets", I would really like to hear everyone's opinion about the single most contributing factor to this season being the mess that it was.

Remember, I am asking for the ONE biggest reason.

Woody Johnson has been the only constant to the failures of the team. If I try to find the on-field reasons for this particular failure, it just feels like I'm describing the leaves on a tree with dead roots.

Good thread actually. Want me to add a Poll? You pick the choices and I will add.

Main choices for me to chose from below.

    Ownership
    Coaches
    GM
    Players

Everything else is secondary. From this list I go with Ownership. Woody is not a self made man and didn't have to work hard for the money he had. He is not a hustler and fighter and not the right kind owner we need.

If we take Woody out of the equation for this year, to me it falls on Coaching. Saleh was bad but Ulbrich turned out to be worse.

There will be plenty of valid criticisms about the Ownership. There will be plenty of valid criticisms about the Coaching. There will be plenty of valid criticisms about the Quarterback. To me, the primary reason this season was a disaster is the fact that the three players that were identified by experts as elite-level NFL players that were to be the foundation of this franchise for may seasons to come were overrated.

In other words, Breece Hall, Garret Wilson, and Sauce Gardner are not as good as we were led to believe, and no Quarterback in the NFL could have changed the results.

I agree possibly about sauce, but not 5 and 20. I think this year came down to poor leadership, that was so poor that a qbs “leadership” overtook it. And the result was a locker room that lacks leadership.

Breece Hall was identified as a top 10 player in the league in just about every fantasy-draft pre-season ranking I saw. Now, I realize that the NFL and fantasy football are two very different things, but what on earth did Breece Hall do to earn that reputation? Furthermore, do you really think he lived up to it?

I think I’m finally out on the talented roster bullshit. We have a couple pieces that have underperformed and that has hurt the team but in large part the roster is trash. Bad in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

We also don’t really have a team. We have a collection of players. Shocking the mercenary thing didn’t work out with Tyron Smith, Mike Williams, Reddick and now Davante Adams.

Woody needs to let a GM take a blowtorch to the entire thing and see what he can fix.

#1 ----- The Aaron Rodgers trade will get the blame from me for everything. I was against it from the start - came with too much risk. And its actually turned out even worse than I thought it could.

Distant #2 ----- I think the Jermaine Johnson II season ending injury had a significant impact on this season.

Definitely not, although he seems to be improving (far too late). But I just have a hard time evaluating players right now, because I believe the morale is crushed from Rodgers/coaching. I don’t think anyone is playing to their capabilities. Feels like there is a strong mental virus going around this organization, it’s the only way I can make sense of what’s happening… because much worse teams with a little fire don’t lose the way we do. This defense has gone from top to worst in one year, with just a few changes (Jfm, huff, and lack of middle run stuffer).

    Woody Johnson & Aaron Rodgers

Rodgers clearly came In with the promise of getting his guys to translate the offense Aaron Rodgers wanted to run. It literally became the Rodgers show. It's obvious that Rodgers Is playing a offense that relies on Rodgers reading the defense. So they are trying to change the play according to this, every single play, or close to. This to me, is the vision that Rodgers has, he Is running a offense that nobody can plan for. Problem with that, our own team can't plan for the Rodgers offense either. It's all dependent on his read and signals. It's a nightmare, we don't have a true offensive scheme, and the brain behind that defense Is gone.

It's the same idiotic mentality that Woody's brother had when he hired Adam Gase. It all started because of a future HOF QB recommended Chris Johnson to hire the guy. So, he did. We all know how that turned out.

    It's the same shit now.

Woody is in love with, Rodgers. So, he forced Rodgers on the FO and CS. Rodgers came here with the understanding that he would be able to run the offense the way he envisioned. We brought In "his" guys for the transition. None of it has worked and now we are not only dog shit In the present but this will ultimately hinder this team moving forward into next year and beyond.. Who knows at this point?

    Its a fucking mess.

    Timeline:

Woody - Douglas - Saleh all recruit Rodgers. They literally fly to meet him In an undisclosed location. What teams do this besides the NYJ? Its absurd. It happened. They trade for Rodgers. They bring in his guys. Rodgers gets hurt. We go a full season without Rodgers, so they were forced to implement an actual offensive scheme on the fly. Which ironically worked better than this bullshit we are seeing now with Rodgers.

We have the offseason, we go through the whole show and dance, then we finally get into the season. From game 1 we've seen the miscommunication and sloppy play from the Rodgers Offense. We constantly hear the players saying how difficult it is to be on the same page in this offense because Rodgers has 50 different potential signals for every play. Its overly complicated, and the only dude on the same page, is the dude running the show. Rodgers.

Nothing is working the way people envisioned. So, Woody steps in and makes the brilliant decision to fire Saleh 5 games into the season. Then you magically see Reddick get signed. Then you see a forced trade to get DaVante. Yet, you still see the same stupid shit happening within this offense.

JD no longer works for the NYJ. BTW

This is strictly the Woody and Rodgers show at this point.

We will all have the pleasure of seeing this shit show again next year as well.

The problem Is at the top of the totem pole of this organization. Until that changes, this team will continue to be shit..

Of course, not all of this I can prove, but this Is my conclusion. Based on the information that we all have to dissect.

Its just a sad and frustrating situation that we are all paying the price for. Fuck them. Getting Rodgers was a massive mistake, and I think this sets us back more than most realize.

    We shall see.

I can't give any other answer other than Woody Johnson. While the talent level is higher this season, this type of dysfunction has happened a bunch of times over the past 10 or 11 years. This is what happens when you try to play Fantasy football with a real football team. This is what happens when you jump in front of your GM and start forcing moves. This is what happens when you get starstruck and blow up everything to get a big name quarterback in here. This is what happens when you give away your leverage publicly to get what you want.

If you're speaking strictly from the standpoint of the team, then it has to be coaching. There is far too much talent on his team for it to be this bad. They are not taught well, they are not given a proper game plan, they are not cohesive in any way. And at this point, it seems like a lot of them have given up. So, on top of all of that, they are also not motivated correctly.

But this all starts at the top.

I think they are as good as we thought they were, they've shown they were, but we have run them into the ground like we have done with every other young comma talented player. When you are not coached properly, when you will not motivated, and when you are surrounded by a circus like atmosphere at all times, this is what happens. They will all be fine once they go somewhere else.

    It all starts with Woody.

That notwithstanding, I believe they'd be better off with another vet QB rather than Rodgers at this point.

Also the DL. Terrible roster management made a strength a big weakness

This is really it. We have "a few nice pieces" but there is just no foundation to build on. Like you said, we suck in the trenches on both sides. If you want more proof of that, just check out the early 2025 Mocks that have the Jets drafting either a DL or an OT (yet again).

JD had a good philosophy for drafting those positions, he just never hit ! How many terrible picks did we make at OL over the last 5 years? I really hope we don't have to add Olu to the list.

I just don’t want to see this team lose players because they lacked leadership. Can see clearly that’s the case in the past…. Darnold, Gino…. Would definitely be the case with Garrett and breece

Handing the keys to the franchise to a way past his best QB and letting him dictate who we sign as coach and players.

This move has set this franchise back how many years?

Hard to say because we have been shit for so long but it will take some rebuilding from scratch the moment he is forced out the door.
