There are a couple SB winning teams a decade (if that) that win without top tier QB play. Denver won with a compromised Peyton Manning in 2015. The Eagles won with Foles in 2017 but he put forth a 115 QB rating, almost a thousand yards in 3 games and a 6:1 TD: INT ratio. Flacco’s isn’t a HOFer with his sole SB win but posted a 117 QB eating with 11:0 TD:INT ratio and 285 yards per game. All other QBs are probably Hall of Famers since the Jets AFCCG appearances. You need top QB play. You can probably argue for or against Russell Wilson.
Right… Is it possible to win without a top QB? Yeah, it is, but it doesn’t happen often and it’s not a sustainable multiple championships type deal.
So now that another discarded "franchise QB" draft pick off the terrible team scrap heap landed himself into a much better system situation, and now is looking more "franchise QB'ish" friendly, does he get the Derek Carr contract in the winter if he keeps it up? I think it would be a mistake for Minny to let him go while 100% buying into the belief that JJ wasn't the total reach in the draft he was (imo), but that is a lot of dough if so.
Sam Darnold is doing well but he's playing right now the way I wanted to see him play in year 5 with the Jets, instead he's on his 4th team. The Jets didn't do right by him, that is for sure.
