Yeah, I'm in state of apathy right now. I had high hopes for Saleh changing things, but knew in year one that he was going to be a loser. oh well.
Simple, remove all hope this team will make the playoffs. Then tailgate with your buds on Sunday, leave the game at the Half, and get your fishing gear for Monday.
That's a good way to be - I am at a point where I am glad (and surprised) if they do well but when they suck I just accept it for what it is
Okay. Let me chime in. My only sports team in entire America is Jets. My other sports team in the world is Galatasaray. I am ONLY emotionally attached to these teams. When they win it makes me happy, when they lose a meaningful game I get upset and angry showing emotions. I also follow other New York sports teams Yankees, Mets, Knicks, Islanders, Rangers, Devils etc. When they win I like it but when they lose I don't care one bit. Do I want them to win? Yes because they are New York team. But do I care if they win big or lose big? Nah. I don't care. What I quoted above makes me think you like the Jets just like I like other New York teams. That is fine. But if that's the case, why did you sign up to a Jets board and posted 14K posts? I don't get it. I never ever signed up to any other New York teams forums. I think this is why people are calling you out my friend.
I like the Jets as much as any of my other sports teams. People here can vouch for my passion for the New York Rangers, and my alma-mater Villanova. No other team I have ever rooted for has performed this poorly, and for this long that the no longer generate a reaction from me. Thats how drained this team has gotten me. Just because this team generates a different response from me than my other teams do has nothing to do with my loyalty. I am not abandoning them for another NFL team. My level of enthusiasm is the issue, NOT my loyalty. The sad reality is my level of enthusiasm is directly proportional to what this franchise has given me for the past 14 years.
I’ve been a season ticket holder for almost 30 years. Started in 95. This 14 years of futility has been tough. Then they have increased ticket prices then want money 7 months in advance for the next season recently in the last year or so. That’s a tough pill to swallow. Where did they think this was a good idea? I canceled my tickets for the next season and my will for supporting this team is hanging by a thread. This is not getting fixed anytime soon. With Woody rumored to go back over the pond again, I have no confidence in him or his brother fixing this mess. I think the earliest for this team to compete is 4-6 years. With the cap hell we will be in for the next 3 years, it will take that long to get back to 0 and then hope to build something competitive. 20 years of bad football is just inexcusable for a NY team worth 6 Billion dollars. The Mets finally got out from their old owners and has somebody who likes the team, and has money, and wants to win. That might be the only scenario where this finally gets turned around.
I’m not a season ticket holder as I live in LA, but man that action is so tone-deaf by Woody it’s disgusting. How about you actually put a winning team on the field BEFORE you ask for more money. Fuck him
I hate to pull the "age" card on people, probably because I hate to admit I'm old enough to do so, but I've learned a few things over the years that have kept me mostly healthy and mostly happy. The lIfestyle regarding fandom that you and some others here accept as normal adds nothing positive and can have severe detrimental affects. I limit my intake of red meat, alcohol, salt and the New York Jets. That's not to say I don't want them to win every game (although I wouldn't care if they lost their next 24 if doing so put them on a path to win a lot more than they lose for the twenty years after that). I can't expect to tell people what they need to do to be a fan, but I know what's worked for me for a long time. I really don't care who "calls me out" because I don't meet their standards, I meet mine. I've been a Jets fan since they were the Titans; I had season tickets at Shea Stadium, I've been a fan who celebrates the wins and is frustrated by the losses but that's where I draw the line. Anger is not a healthy emotion, getting upset is not healthy, so why allow yourself to go there about a kids game played by millionaires? Why jeopardize your health and maybe your relationships by not staying in control of your own emotions? At the end, we are spectators on the outside looking in. Celebrating wins without allowing losses to be painful has worked for me for sixty years with this team. I suppose you've also noticed that I don't allow the hype machine to take me to unreasonable places and have had a "show me" attitude since before I got here to TGG. If you don't allow false hopes and irrational exuberance to take you to ridiculous heights, the inevitable fall back to earth is far easier to survive without the pain.
RB Great response. I get you now. Life is not black and white. You defined the gray in between very well. Sorry if I crossed a line. Cheers!
You didn't cross the line with me, but don't I remember a story about you at the Meadowlands? Just kidding, pal!
Thanks my friend. I will be at Metlife again this Sunday. I will tailgate and root for the Jets and if they lose, I will go home in a bad mood . But I will be seasoned for a loss as always.
The Jets are like anything else that’s bad for your health. Either moderate them (no pun intended) or, if you can’t, just walk away from them completely. They’ll still be there if you want to come back.
It's the worst I think. Other years at least they have some built in excuses for sucking and/or underachieving injuries or free agent losses or whatever. This year there are no excuses or explanations. They are about as healthy as a NFL team can hope to be this late in the season if the 1999 Jets had been this healthy they would have won it all. Somehow someway with Aaron Rodgers in there and this collection of talent they are worse than last season. Woody's impulsive, mind boggling decision to fire Coach Saleh after the loss to the Vikings pretty much destroyed any chance the Jets had to turn things around this season. It's rock bottom.
Why do I get the feeling while I read all these tales of woe that the Jets are off to the side saying, “Hold my beer!”
I can appreciate this post as I feel the same. Been a fan since about 84 and have gotten little in return. Used to get upset at the losses and take it to heart. Stopped doing that and just hoping they win. But if they don't I don't let it ruin my day or week.
