OK folks. There has been some major whining the last couple of days over the lack of action. Well, if you were happy that we have had made a major change in direction in the front office and coaching staff, then you should be happy that this is not the typical Jets offseason. While it gives us the instant gratification to see the Jets sign a big name Free Agent, perhaps Tannenbaum and Mangini know better. I think if we believed these two were the right guys for the job, we should stand behind them and have faith that they will make the right decisions. Every year a team or two makes a big splash in free agency. Often it just doesn't work (see last year's Vikings and the Sanders/Smith Redskins). I'd rather win on the field than the back page.

Also, keep in mind that both our GM and coach have emphasized the fact that they want smart, tough players. Maybe the big names don't fall into that category. Lavar Arrington and Dante Culpepper are not smart. Abraham is not tough. They will find the guys that fit their blueprint.

I, for one, am on board with this front office. If they want to bring in some vets...I'm fine with that. If they want to wait for the draft....that works too. Championships are not won in early March....it is a year-round process. We should assume these guys have got a plan. Give them a chance...I believe it will be worth the wait.

Great post and I agree, hardworking guys like Oelhoffen are he blue collar type we are looking for. Some people just have no patience, its not like these big off-season teams have shown much over the last few years.

Hey look at the other coaches. Pats haven't done much yet. The cowboys signed one guy but not anything big. Smart coaches wait for the hype and the overpaying to settle down then make there moves.

I agree, if were gonna be a top team in the league were gonna have to be patient and not be too quick to judge so harshly

Excellent post, DbJ, unfortunately it should have gone without saying since the team is obviously in full-blown rebuilding mode. You'll find that the impatience you experience here in the offseason could be grounds for taking a break from the board a few days here and there. It's what happens with me sometimes. I don't envy the mods this offseason.

I agree too, and glad there are others out there. Just because you sign a bunch of guys five hours out of the gate doesn't mean you have a plan. It just means you have a lot of money and probably misguided judgement. The reason teams like Cleveland and Arizona are out there spending so much --and have the cap room to boot -- is because they don't have enough of their own players to re-sign this off season. The last two Super Bowl champs have been quieter than church mice -- NE and the Pats.

I think knowing that they will trade Abe, that they are in a good position to draft down (potentially) from #4 and that they may have a fair number of comp picks, the Jets are planning to build the 2006 team through the draft.

Funny, all the responses are positive, but someone gave the thread a 1-star rating. There's conviction for ya. If you disagree enough to express yourself by giving it a shit rating, at least have the balls to state why.

This is going to be a weird time for TGG, Tony. It's the first time the team has had a regime change since the board's been up. All these little darksider/sunshiner factions are breaking apart and reforming; it's like a biology experiment.

It amazes me ... I know there are some long .. LONG time fans on here. As long as "we" (bit over 20 years for me) have been fans ... how many people have simply ZERO patience. Think back ... (sec I need to grab some antacid from the memories)

.... okay where was I ... oh yeah.

Think back at all the heart ache over the years .... all the missed chances .. the more plentifull lack of any chance at all.

You have made it this far as a fan ... lets sit back ... take a deep breath ... grab another beer ... and give this new FO/CS a chance to "build" their team. What is a few more years?

    Try to enjoy the ride.

I agree, excellent post. We're not the Redskins (Mets of the NFL), where we go out and sign everything in sight to pump up all the fans...

It also seems the ones doing most of the whining are typical newbies, with 50 and under posts...

Ya Dino I know it ... that is why the last couple of years I read more than I post. Love seeing how TGG has grown over the years, but I swear sometimes the /crying & /whining drives me away for periods of time.

Besides if I wanna see someone swear about the Jets I have my wife here at home ... not many people can swear at the TV as well as she can on game day.

I see you joined the board in September of 05. Therefore, you haven't had the pleasure of participating this time of year. This "panic" is an annual ritual every March and April. As each day of free agency goes by, we will be inundated with threads asking why the Jets have been so quiet, lamenting the signing of some player believed to be the key to the Jets' future, and knocking the FO for being asleep at the switch. Try not to spend too much time here until a couple of weeks before the draft if you want to maintain your sanity.

As a Mets fan - I take offense. The Yankees are a much better comparison!
