They should have been trying out kickers for weeks, even if they didn't sign one. At least they would have a better understanding of the field than doing it all in the middle of a shortened week 9 and now a day before gameday. One Jets Drive has perfected amateur hour.
Yikes that's quite a lineup... Riley Patterson is probably the best one from that list. It honestly wouldn't shock me if they trotted out Zuerlein again.
Only the jets don’t know how important a kicker is until our shitty one has us out of contention (among other things of course).
I actually thought Coughlin was the most promising from last tryouts, based on last two years. Of course the Jets had to drop him off the list. https://www.si.com/fannation/ufl/ufl-news/new-york-jets-work-out-ufl-standout-kicker-matt-coghlin Patterson and York already sucked this year, both for Washington. Soon one of them may suck for us.
Ahh, that explains every single miss he had since training camp. Should be all better by tomorrow and back to his usual self. Seriously though, are they thinking to place him on IR since they guaranteed the salary? Just be done with him already, it's not a rocket science.
Woody being cheap If I had to guess. Add him to IR with injury, let him get his money, get a kickback from insurance or something? Lol idk how it works.
Yeah - that's just puzzling. I didn't check the rest, but out of the 3 last week, two were total rejects who already failed THIS YEAR, but Coughlin seemed like the one who has been clearly the best on paper. Yet he is the only one of the 3 who didn't come for the second tryout. Maybe he didn't kick well on tryouts? Our our FO is incompetent. Both? Just odd.
I doubt it is Woody, as the new kicker will make pennies. I think it goes back to not holding players accountable. We had an opportunity to get Siebert and McManus for a very cheap deal - one right away when he clearly beat Greg in the training camp, and the other much later when Greg continued to stink. Failed both times. I mean this is a perfect microcosm of the current regime. 1. Have an opportunity to make the best move, but make wrong decision and fail (Siebert clearly outperforming Greg in camp, then becomes NFL's top kicker elsewhere). 2. Have plenty of opportunity to correct your mistake with little damage taken (get McManus after the Patriots game where he fucked up again). 3. Wait until it is too late and the damage is irreparable and no opportunity to fix when it matters (lost 3 games because of the kicker, season over effectively, and McManus is signed by someone else and already won two games for them) 4. Attempt to fix from remaining bottom of the barrel choices when it doesn't even matter. 5. Rinse, repeat.
Were these morons trotting out an injured kicker week after week? I mean, why not ? I’m sure no game is ever decided by just a field goal or extra point
We signed 2 sucky kickers today after Zurlein blew 3 games already we are saved, super bowl here we come!
I can't fn believe this guy is still on the team. WHAT'S UP? Teams cut and replace bad kickers all the time. Why are the Jets being so loyal to this guy? Or is this the same type of deal as Hackett his relationship with Rodgers is why he's here? Who's saving Greg the Legs from unemployment?
It seems that the Jets were much more aggressive last night past the 50 instead of playing it safe and counting on a long Greg Zuerlein FG. Him getting hurt is a blessing in disguise.
