Idk. To me JU as HC is basically just giving out poor man Dan Campbell with no brilliant Ben Johnson vibes. Who after yesterday is basically just in there to be an even bigger stay-out-of-my-way Aaron Rodgers yes man.

That not only does absolutely nothing to fix the current problem (the offense), but leaves me questioning whether or not I should expect the defense to be as good going forward.

Which on that note I rushed out to get that Buffalo defense to play on my fantasy team this week ;)

    Of course they did.

Also, stand up to Arod when needed. Arod doesn't run the team.

How concerned are we that we have now obviously totally removed Saleh from our defense but semi-removed Ulbrich as well. It seems like a lot of man hours from the guys that were making a top NFL defense the last 4 weeks even with quite a few bad cards being dealt to them (JJ going down, Reddick, Mosley etc) just got peeled away from the one thing that was actually helping the Jets.

Not saying the sky is falling for sure.... just a little worried.

Not concerned at all. Brick was calling plays and game planning. They have been doing this for 3 years. He will continue to call plays, which is all I needed to hear. At this point Saleh was a cheerleader, and is addition by subtraction.

Ulbrich's first press conference should be required viewing for all fans. He probably puts out 50% more words per minute than his predecessor and with twice the energy. If he can get the team on the page he's on we'll see aggressive football starting at the coin toss. He says all the right things and even in the presser focused on those things that bothered the hell out of most of us. I don't expect another ho-hum slow start this season. Around the middle there was a reporter asking a question at a contemplative pace and I thought he was going to come around the podium and shake it out of him - this is a guy who wants to move! Almost provokes optimism!

Does anyone know if Downing will be in the booth or on the sidelines? I'd kind of like to see these guys shoulder to shoulder for some energy to rub off on the offense.

I'm coming around, I do like the way he looks like he's risng to it and I did forget about the interim experience after Quinn was fired. I like ex-player coaches, this guy is not going to be a fan of his roster. He gives me some hope. Hell, maybe the 2025 choice ends up being Ulbrich.

His prior public persona very well could have been influenced by subservience to Saleh etc. He seems much more vibrant and intelligent today.

So I’m gonna quote Saleh when he gave his full confidence in Ulbrich’s playcalling abilities when he said “a monkey can call this defense”. While I think that was one of the many stupid things I’ve heard Saleh say, there is a level of truth to it. Our D is not rocket science, it’s aggression with elite talent and a rotating DL to keep them fresh to beat up the OL over the course of a game. I don’t think Ulbrich will have any issues calling the D while managing the team.

I will admit that at the very beginning of this whole operation I got a little bit of a negative attitude towards Ulbrich. I think it was just a few seconds here and there on TV of him standing there with his hat on backwards looking all cocky while our defense was getting its ass walked down the field. It just rubbed me the wrong way to be looking cocky while getting your ass kicked AND you just showed up and haven't really earned the right to be cocky yet.

But that was a few years ago and I agree with your sentiment. It just seems like this guy might somehow work out and be the guy to get the Jets actually headed in the right direction. And if he does manage to he's just a kid yet coaching wise and could stick around forever if he really is the guy.

And no matter what happens we all pretty much know and agree that the set up we had wasn't clicking. Lets hope mixing things up makes it better.

Tough spot, to win with a bunch of losers. The currentt NYJ team is a bunch of losers. bunch of "almost" guys. Almost caught the TD. Almost made the tackle or the INT. Almost won 3 games in a row... but didn't. In a year when the division has never been weaker, the Jets are somehow just a hair too weak still.

Still a dumb team finding new ways to lose, what do you expect from a coach from the saleh tree?

There’s too much pressure on Jeff U right now too hurry up and fix things imo. Hopefully he cleans up dumb penalties

Woody maybe had to keep Hackett and Saleh cause of AR but in reality Saleh should have been let go..ugh the politics of appeasing AR

That said the Defense is losing games for us and getting gashed in the run game

Monday night was hero time for Rogers and with almost 300 yards u can’t blame him. And we need to score in Red Zone for gods sake..,that’s my offense critique. But a slight improvement overall

Move on from kicker Zuerlein and fix the D

We are losing very winnable games : Denver Tonight and over in London

Ulbrich was fine last night--his time outs before halftime netted us 7 points. He was involved--he was one of the bright spots IMO. We can win with him.

I saw Ulbrich walking around with a play card and it was obvious to me that he was engaged in the game. Saleh sometimes looked like he could be arguing his cable bill or something.

Nothing from coaching this week looked inept. For a first game ever under the national microscope I’d say Ulbrich did well. That said, he has 2 major player decisions that need to be made this week.

They need to cut Kinlaw outright. Belicheck was all but making fun of him the entire first half (saying it looks like he plays on roller skates), and then Rex picked right up in the 2nd half ragging on him. The dude is a bad player with a 2 cent brain. It’s far more likely that he commits something disastrous than it is for him to make a basic play.

The 2nd thing they need to do is sit Tyron down and give Olu a shot at his natural LT position. Tyron’s decision making looks like 56k modem trying to upload a porn pic. By the time he’s figured it out the defender is already past him. He’s slow physically and mentally. He deserves a veteran rest day every day.

Kinlaw looked terrible last night--he actually had been playing decent previously IMO. Yes and Tyron surely is embarrassed today--the whiff on the pull out showed everything one needs to know about his lack of flexibility. Maybe he can come in as a sixth lineman when necessary and be a depth piece. May as well get Olu the experience now.

I can't judge him on one game. Let's see how he responds to sloppy, winnable mess that was last night. Very curious (but not hopeful) to see how he responds and the team comes back next week

I will say this even though I like the guy, his “we’re gonna take a hard look” line is gonna grow old really fast. Kinda like Mangini’s “it’s a process”
