I think ulbrich was going to be a sought after hc this off season. I think he makes a difference, and I’m glad we get to try it out before someone else.
It makes zero sense why the coaches were brought back. I get that JD theoretically is in his last year and it would deter coaches from wanting to come here because the GM might be out next but who cares. I'm sure we could have found someone better than Saleh that wanted this job.
The deck chairs have been rearranged, but the the captain is still at the helm. Don't stray too far from the life boats.
I like Ulbrich, but honestly have no clue how he will be as HC. Seems like a hardass, and hopefully will show some emotion on the sideline and chew out officials when necessary which will at least be a change from MR Passive/non aggressive. Still hate that Doofus OC is still employed...
No change in the amount of hope. Saleh had to go, and for once it was actually the right move by Woody Johnson, and I commend him for it, but at the end of the day, it's still the same coaching staff with the same offensive playcaller. There might be a bit of a bump in the short term. I would expect them to come out at a different gear Monday night than they have so far under Saleh, but after a week or two, it'll drop back down to what it was and perhaps worse because this coaching staff, as a collective whole, is still the worst coaching staff in the league.
I'm curious but wouldn't say hopeful yet. Unless Ulbrich can instill some change in the offense I'm skeptical. We're stuck with Hackett and some other terrible offensive coaches and that's the bigger, unaddressed problem. So not hopeful really
Problem with the Jets is they have morons running the organization, everyone wanted Saleh gone at the end of last year but the Woody's. Everyone saw thru Saleh's bs but Woody just like everyone saw Zack Wilson sucked ass but the Woody's and the coaching staff, if Saleh was fired at the end of last year we could of had Harbuagh , Vrabel or Carrol coaching this team and they would of never agreed to have Hackett as their offensive coordinator, now we are stuck with a guy who Saleh brought in as our coach(another defensive minded coach so there is a 95% chance he will suck to) and the worst offensive coordinator football has ever seen, . And the coaching pool is not good as it was last year, and what coach will want to coach this joke of a organization when AR retires and we are in another rebuild?
I think you're looking at this from the wrong side head - the Jets have never caused problems by the coaches they fire, it's always with the ones they hire. This goes back to Charley Winner - who wasn't. Charley was hired because he was Weeb's son in law, not because he was a competent NFL coach. Not firing Saleh would only have delayed the chance that they could break out of the cycle of futility.
I'm not sure I have renewed hope (for one, I haven't seen anything that makes me think Ulbrich is HC capable; and for another- seems the OC/offensive coaching staffs are in place), but it sure feels satisfying to fire someone finally and Saleh wasn't cutting it (this year, last year, the year before that, etc.)
This reminds me of the propaganda we hear every Spring and Summer coming out of the Florham Park cult lead by dummy Woody. Hope is eternal forever in Jet land until the real games start, that is when the reality of this organizations incompetence repeatedly rears its ugly head. Everyone is blaming Rodgers for Saleh's firing, but the real truth is Saleh had zero preparational and in game skills to be an NFL head coach. I can cite at least 20 times this team came out on game days looking like they had never even met each other previously. Saleh's ego was bigger than the state of NY. His stubbornness was unmatched as well. If he didn't like you, you were done as a player here. Saleh is gone now, and we are left with a rookie HC, and the same putrid offensive coordinator who has no clue wth he is doing obviously. So what did this solve exactly in terms of this season that is only 5 games old? Home for a pissed off Buffalo team, then going into Pittsburgh against that defense? I guarantee they will again be embarrassed on National TV the next 2 weeks, drop to 2-5 and headed to the top 5 in the draft where hopefully, a new, more competent GM will draft a legitimate QB prospect. Yes, you guys can come down on me for being negative all the time but give me one god damned thing to be positive about with this franchise. I want nothing more than to come here and write positive posts, but this franchise does not allow that. The NY Jets are one failure after another, year after year after year.
Any hope I have lies with Ulbrich, not Woody or the organization as a whole. Yes, this firing had to happen although it happened way too late and that's obviously on ownership. However, now that it has been done maybe Ulbrich is the right guy and will surprise us. From what I read the players really respect him and he is probably the most well thought of coach on the staff. The little I've heard him say so far sounds positive but he needs to realize this is his shot and make the necessary changes regarding the offense. Does he have the guts to go all in on imposing his style (whatever that may be) on this team and impose a culture of acountability? Bottom line, I went from sure that we were going nowhere with Saleh to less sure with Ulbrich, so I guess that qualifies as some hope, small as it may be.
I can't vote until I see action. Woody and Ulbrich were quoted as non committal on Hackett and Woody said they know where the strong areas are and the weak and so does everyone else. Talk doesn't solve it, only actions can try to solve it. So long as Hackett is OC and calling plays nothing will change. My guess is Ulbrich will closely monitor this weeks game plan by Hackett and see what passing game coordinator says. If they lay an egg against Bills I think Hackett is gone and the passing coordinator becomes the interim OC for the rest of the season. The question then is will it help? It's getting late early.
