Yes. And here it is! Rich Cimini @RichCimini The Jets and nickel back Michael Carter II have agreed to a three-year, $30.75M extension, source confirms (as @TomPelissero said). #Jets lock up a key member of their defense. Maybe Reddick is next.
So weird. Zack Rosenblatt @ZackBlatt Haason Reddick signing and posing with Jets helmets: 5:56 PM · Sep 3, 2024 https://x.com/ZackBlatt/status/1831088987089604957?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^tweet
Also saw that they didn’t actually need to restructure anything to get the Carter deal done. Maybe the news isn’t done yet? I definitely don’t want to overpay for reddick, and the way it’s all be handled sucks. But would be nice to get it rectified one way or another .
Honestly it would be good to start taking care of guys like Breece and GW and Sauce sooner rather than later too
Refreshing to see Carter being rewarded. Time to take care of our nucleus first, Wilson, Sauce and GG. I smell a trade for Reddick or some enhanced one year deal in the making.
I think the Jets don't have enough cap space to pay Reddick if and when he shows up. According to over the cap, the Jets now have about $18.4 million (this is after freeing up the $8 million - it was $10 million yesterday). Reddick is $14 million and change, before $2 million in non-negotiable forfeitures, leaving about $12 million due him for the year. Teams like to carry $5-$6 million in cap space going into the season, so that would suggest that they think Reddick might report in the near future. Without the $8 million in restructure savings the Jets could not afford to pay Reddick his salary for this year and keep the $5-6 million or so needed during the year.
I was being a bit extreme but there are guys pushing $50-$60 million. What if at the end of their careers they took $15 million? Imagine the roster flexibility that would open up.
Yeah, you’d figure that once they earn so much, they’d be willing to take a bit less and allow the team to spread the wealth a bit more But I’m guessing the NFLPA would not allow it or at least have something to say about it as it would set a precedent for undervaluing the position Brady was really a strange case…but I think he was also getting a lot of money in other ways like with his training gig…not sure why that was never investigated as an effort to skirt the cap…maybe there was nothing shady there but I have my doubts…
With Surtain getting paid today it sets Sauces market at 4yrs 25m per w/90% fully guaranteed. Pay that man as soon as the season ends.
I remember when Revis was an A-hole for holding out for 16m per year and we thought that was unreasonable for a corner haha
I second that with complete support. Will push the like button every day for hi. If it happens today.
Also, Carters new contract hasn't been included in the number yet. I imagine its back loaded but should still ding the cap for several million. If we deal with Reddick were going to have to restructure and borrow money from future years.
