Between now and the the end of the season, there will be quite a few roster moves. I thought that we could start tracking them in one thread.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nf...&cvid=041bd96b542242d6b1a7c340b3c8a7d0&ei=131

The New York Jets did some roster shuffling this week ahead of OTAs.

They added two players on the offensive side of the ball with wide receiver Hamze El-Zayat and running back Markese Stepp. In a corresponding move, the green and white cut ties with running back Jacques Patrick and defensive lineman Marquiss Spencer.

Jets Lock in Several Rookies to Contracts
In addition to some of those moves, general manager Joe Douglas worked quickly to lock in several members of his 2024 rookie class.

Olu Fashanu, the No. 11 overall pick in the first round, signed a four-year deal. Rich Cimini of ESPN said it’s a “slotted amount of $20.5 million, plus a fifth-year option.”

New York then locked in their new RB2 behind Breece Hall, by locking in former Wisconsin tailback Braelon Allen.

Cimini revealed that it’s a four-year deal for $4.5 million.

Ex-Florida State passer, Jordan Travis is locked into his rookie deal. He will be pegged as the developmental QB3 in 2024.

That is a four-year standard contract “for about $4.3 million,” according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.

The Jets raised a lot of eyebrows when they took two running backs during the 2024 class. However, they appear to have a plan for both of those players in terms of pass protection and grinding out games.

saiah Davis, one of those backs, inked his four-year deal for “about $4.3 million,” per Rich Cimini of ESPN.

One of the best stories from the 2024 NFL draft has officially become a reality. Qwan’tez Stiggers, the former CFL star, has inked the same type of contract as a slotted fifth-round draft choice ($4.3 million).

Finally, New York also locked in former Alabama defender Jaylen Key to his rookie contract. The contract for Key is a little lighter, “about $4.1 million”, by nature of him being drafted later than the others.

That leaves Malachi Corley as the only unsigned rookie at publication.

A New Era of NFL Football
Field Yates of ESPN sent out this post on X previously Twitter on Friday, May 10: “103 of the 257 picks in the 2024 NFL Draft officially signed their rookie deals today. Long gone are the days of rookie deals taking a while to come together.”

That all dates back to the 2011 NFL CBA agreement.

“The rookie wage scale has had the biggest impact on the game, because it has changed the way NFL teams draft. No. 1 picks no longer make $50 million guaranteed, everyone signs a four-year deal and rookie holdouts have started to slowly fade away,” Tyson Langland of Bleacher Report explained.

Over a decade ago, these rookies could negotiate large factors in their contracts which could lead to holdouts. Fast forward to now, the Jets signed 99% of its rookie draft class in a handful of hours on social media.

It’s a whole new world which is good news for the Jets because this means that there is one less potential distraction they will have to deal with this offseason.

    Thanks, GREG for this info:

Adam Schefter on X: "Jets are signing free-agent RB Tarik Cohen to a one-year deal, per source. Cohen was one of the NFL’s top return specialists and a receiving threat before injuries derailed his career. Cohen last played in the NFL in 2020, but now will attempt his comeback with the Jets. https://t.co/7lBjqEt1Sc" / X

The Jets signed DE Takkarist McKinley today following his tryout at yesterday's mini-camp. I wonder how healthy he is. Earlier in his career, he had shoulder issues, then tore his achilles tendon late in the 2021 season.

The Jets have signed defensive lineman Takk McKinley.

Over four full seasons with Atlanta, he played in 49 games (25 starts) and recorded 17.5 sacks, 22 tackles for loss and 45 QB hits. He was released by Atlanta in November 2020 and quickly claimed off waivers by the Raiders and placed on injured reserve.

While at UCLA, McKinley played 33 games over three seasons. He accounted for 17 sacks, 29 tackles for loss, 102 total tackles, 6 forced fumbles and earned first team All-Pac-12 honors in 2016.

Jets Sign UFL Standout, Kohl Levao
    Story by Nick Faria
    • 8h •
The UFL season has come to a close and that means the standouts from each Spring League team now have an opportunity to sign with NFL organizations.

The New York Jets are the latest organization to use the UFL for players.

New York signed offensive lineman Kohl Levao of the San Antonio Brahmas in an announcement made by the UFL social media team themselves. Levao helped lead the Brahmas to the inaugural UFL championship game against the Birmingham Stallions but fell 25-0.

Now, Levao will be able to compete for a potential role on the Jets roster that has made transformational changes to their offensive line.

Levao made the All-UFL team this past season for his ability along the offensive line. He was an eighth-round pick by the Brahmas in the XFL Draft before the XFL and USFL merged for the 2024 season. Levao, 26, played at Hawaii from 2018 to 2021. He stands at 6-foot-5, 324 pounds.

He will be competing with the likes of Max Mitchell, Wes Schweitzer, and Xavier Newman for roles as backups along a Jets offensive line that has gone through a reconstruction with the additions of Tyron Smith, Morgan Moses, and 11th overall pick Olu Fashanu.

    More information on the signing:

According to James Larsen of Pro Football Newsroom, Levao is signing a three-year deal with a maximum value of $2.8 million.

Larsen explained that Levao garnered “plenty of NFL interest” and held “multiple” contract offers from NFL teams. However, he signed with the Jets because they offered him a multiyear deal which ended up being, “the biggest contract for any UFL player so far this offseason.”

Jets Are Kicking the Tires on a Worthy Prospect
Levao was on a Brahmas team that went all the way to the UFL championship game this season.

He has exclusively played the guard position over the last two years for the Brahmas. According to Pro Football Focus data, Levao has 955 career snaps at left guard and 317 snaps at right guard.

    From The Jets Way:

    David Wyatt-Hupton

Very interesting player as he really did play all over at Hawaii.

    LG - 129 Snaps

    C - 995 snaps

    RG - 105 snaps

    RT - 769 snaps

Allowed 3 sacks over his last three years in Hawaii after struggling as a RT in his first year (6 sacks). Will be an interesting guy to keep an eye on.

    Jun 24, 2024 at 02:37 PM

    Ethan Greenberg

The Jets have released CB Tae Hayes.

Hayes (5-9, 188) signed with the Jets practice squad last Oct. 3 and was elevated for the game against the Eagles in Week 6. He originally signed with the Jaguars in 2019 as an undrafted free agent out of Appalachian State and has had stints with the Dolphins, the Panthers, the Patriots, the Vikings and the Ravens. He's played in 14 career games and has 18 tackles, 1 fumble recovery and 2 pass defenses.

Tae Hayes’ short-lived career with the Jets is over.

The Jets on Monday released the 26-year-old cornerback, shortly after his Sunday morning arrest in Alabama on a charge of marijuana possession, according to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.

The 5-foot-9, 188-pound Hayes was booked and released after posting a $300 bond. The Jets subsequently released a statement saying, “We are aware of the situation and we will refrain from further comment, as it is a pending legal matter.”

The matter is no longer the Jets’ concern.

Hayes was signed to the practice squad Oct. 3 and elevated for their game against the Eagles in Week 6, recording two tackles.

He originally signed with the Jaguars in 2019 as an undrafted free agent out of Appalachian State and also played for the Dolphins, Panthers, Patriots, Vikings and the Ravens. Overall, he played in 14 career games and had 18 tackles, one fumble recovery and two passes defensed.

He was a star defensive back at Appalachian State after playing for Decatur High School in Alabama.

Hayes also played for the Birmingham Stallions, now of the United Football League. He was a member of the Stallions’ 2022 USFL championship team.

He signed a reserve/future contract with the Jets in January and had been expected to compete for a roster spot.
