We're heading to Morocco in 9 days. Thoughts to those who've been there?

Added 3 more countries to my list in 2023. During thanksgiving break I headed to Scandinavia. 2 nights in Oslo , 2 nights in Stockholm 2 nights in Copenhagen. SAS Airlines multi trip option came to be $706 for all plane tickets. Hotels averaged $160 per night.

Not that many places - but then the advantage of being on a board with mostly Americans where only half the population has a passport is that even a few can look good :p My wife will not fly so spent most of our vacations in the UK but finally made it on a few long-haul trips with just the kids now they are older and hoping to add Japan soon

Largely in order of when I visited them (nowhere especially exotic or off the beaten track):
    - Spain
    - Balearic Islands
    - France
    - Germany
    - Austria
    - Belgium
    - Canada (a few times)
    - Italy
    - Ireland
    - Iceland
    - Poland
    - Switzerland
    - USA (a few times)

My favourite places (for a variety of reasons):
    - Venice - it really does feel like you are on a movie set and if you step one street over from the super touristy spots it can be very quiet
    - Siena (Italy) - again just incredible to look at and a lot less hectic than somewhere like Florence
    - London - it is probably the most varied and interesting place I've been even though as someone that lives well away from it in the UK I am programmed to hate it (a bit like people in Texas with NYC)
    - Krakow - was much nicer than I was expecting (and refreshingly good value!)
    - New York City - huge amount to see and do and again often felt like you were on a movie set
    - Nantucket Island - one of the nicest places I have ever been, if I was seriously rich I would buy a place there and rarely leave

We're flying into Casablanca. We like to go sightseeing and the touristy stuff. My wife and I are pretty active so we don't mind logging a lot of miles.

I need to add Austria(Innsbruck), Germany(Munich), and Italy(Venice). We did Oktoberfest while we were in Munich......holy shit, did we get a load on. We also dressed the part with lederhosen and shit.

Hi - the steer I got (which wasn't much) was - leave Casablanca as apparently its pretty rough (their advice was "be careful") - and get over to Marrakesh as soon as you can as its really nice and try to sort a desert safari where you get to spend the night in the desert.

What was your impression of the Dutch people versus other places you visited? Just curious.

I found them quite friendly, but I have to admit that, thanks to many international conferences through the years, I have quite a few Dutch friends, so that could be affecting my opinion. More generally, I've found that most people around the world are pretty friendly, with the very notable exception of more than a few Parisians, and more than a couple of other European French speakers (I'm looking at some of you, Walloons).

I feel like 2 nights in Stockholm or any Euro city isn't enough. I spent about a week there and left wishing I had more time. I'm also the lunatic who went in January

Mumbai is one place that has never caught my imagination. I have talked to a lot of people that work there though. They like it when you kindly do the needful.

I'd like to check out Kolkata though.

I have been to India multiple times but not to Mumbai. Been to Bangalore and Chennai. Not sure if your questions are Mumbai specific but send me a PM with your questions and I will try to help.

Gigantic pressing desire to go to Argentina. The history and love affair between Italy and Argentina is fascinating. Look at the surnames in Argentina, huge Italian faction.

My Daddy was born in Buenos Aires. My grandmother was pregnant with him when they went through Ellis Island in 1920, but they were turned away because the quota for Italians/Sicilians was met so his family had wait two years to see Lady Liberty again.

Anyway, I have my Daddy's original passport, it's a stunning piece of family history. He went back to Palermo, Sicily, twice when he was under 10 years old to see some cousins. I met them in 1986.

My Daddy with his 8th grade education was a polyglot, but that's a story for another day. He always wanted to go back to Argentina to see where was born (specifically). I have a great lead because I have WW II Army records of the Church where he was baptized to prove his eligibility for full U.S. Citizenship. He was sworn in on the spot in the recruitment office when he volunteered for the Army but that's beside the point.

Guess where he was stationed? Naples, Italy, lol. He spoke the language , so there's always that. He came home speaking perfect Roman Italian, but the list of what he could navigate was unreal. I'm talking way beyond Romance Languages, thanks to the garment industry.

So that's my tangent for the day.
