I just read an article on Heavy on Jets that I thought was interesting. https://heavy.com/sports/new-york-jets/jets-trade-draft-aidan-o-connell/ It mentions an interesting trade proposal by Bill Barnwell in his All Trade mock draft. He has the Raiders trading up with the Jets. The Jets get picks #13, #44, and QB Aidan O'Connell. The Raiders would get picks #10 and #111. What do you guys think of Aidan O'Connell being the young QB the Jets groom behind Rodgers and Taylor? I know next to nothing about him, but he had a decent rookie year last year for the Raiders and had a decent collegiate career at Purdue. I'd hate to give up pick #111, but the Jets could still quite possibly get the OT that they want and need at #13 and at pick #44 they could get a really good WR prospect. At #44 they could possibly get Corley, Leggette, or which ever WR they liked that was still available.
I saw the original article on ESPN. These were listed as something like "pipe dream" proposals in the article. This would never happen in real life and JD has gotten fleeced on several draft day trades in the past so no thanks. He's the last guy I want wheeling and dealing espeically on draft day. Stick with the picks the Jets have and make good choices and then you don't have to make some cute trade like this. Hard pass on this one.
Yep..more wheel that runs you down than a deal that's a real steal. smh Douglas has a 6-year GM grade D for me. After this offseason and the April draft perhaps, he climbs to B minus with getting us a future OL . Personally, I think that is more important than TE at 10 for example.
I saw Aidan O'Connell play in preseason and thought the guy was a seasoned pro until I checked into him. He moved the chains consistently. I would not mind having him on our bench. He ended up taking Garoppolo's job so I think there is definitely some upside there. I saw a seven round mock by Chad Reuter on NFL.com today where he had the Jets taking FSU QB Jordan Travis in Round 6. Of course it's a mock, but I'd rather have a guy like O'Connell who has looked reasonably good with one year experience than a raw rookie drafted in the 6th round.
Fuck Barnwell. Same idiot who said we were better off signing Teddy bridgewater instead of trading for Rodgers and said we would finish below the Pats.
I’d do that deal only moving down 3 spots and you get a 2nd round pick and a developmental QB out of it
Yeah - Rodgers put Bridgewater to shame last year - he had four snaps and Bridgewater had only three.
I’m not sure this Barnwell guy got that one wrong. Anyone can argue all they want but Rodgers has done more harm than good to this team and I highly doubt Bridgewater would have done the same.
You're not really calling scoreboard on that yet, are you? We're still trying to come out on the positive side of that deal. And if it wasn't obvious that the Pats were tanking in 2023 then it should have been when Belichick blatantly threw the final game of the season against the team he hates losing to the most.
Good thread...now if Barnwell had included Zach Wilson in the trade, he might be on to something! But ya, I can easily see JD trading down. This draft seems to be rich in O-lineman and WRs. Why draft just one when he can trade down a bit and draft both? I guess if there's a player sitting there at 10 that JD thinks could be a future hall of famer, sure take him. Otherwise, wheel and deal and get both LT and WR
This guy also proposed Niners trade up to 5 and give the Chargers Aiyuk so they can draft Marvin Harrison. Stupid. Why would the Chargers do that?
I've never been a fan of Barnwell, but I thought there was some merit to this trade, especially if Aidan O'Connell is a decent QB prospect.
The trade sounds cool. Why would the Raiders do it? They could also probably very easily do it without AOC.
I say no. There will be a top wide receiver at 10 that the Jets need. Not so sure there will be one at pick 13.
