Yeah, I actually think safety is a pretty important position but we need a total mindset shift as an organization regarding offensive talent. We need to absolutely stockpile players on offense. It's just so much more important than defense. WRs, TEs, OLs - we can't have enough of any of these. You need to have so many weapons on offense that there's basically always a distinct mismatch somewhere. There are exceptions to this, like if you have an elite QB AND playcaller, but we have arguably the worst playcaller in the NFL. We need to Hackett-proof this offense as much as possible.
NYJ Matt tweeted yesterday morning that he was going to send Mike Williams a breakfast sandwich to show him how good NJ is. He followed through with it and send it through doordash to 1JD today. https://x.com/nyjets/status/1770224348571288007?s=20 Here is the video of him eating it. The entire thing was being spread around like wildfire. It was on ESPN and in the NY post. @NYJalltheway
I still think they entertain the idea of OBJ had 4 or 5 million. Him and Rodgers have been dying to play together.
They need another OT and it doesn't matter if he plays backup. He'll have some time to learn and then will probably play when one of the starters gets injured.
I won't ever cry too much about a 1 year dear deal on a non-QB, but the potential upside here is more wishcasting based then reality. I'd have preferred a lesser injury risk Boyd if the money ends up being similar. Or probably OBJ if he comes in at half the cost. Basically making the same mistake here we made last year imo when we should have signed Meyers instead of Lazard. I'll take the under here on a 29yo and fresh off an ACL tear Mike Williams reaching any of his career average metrics in the Hackett Offense.
Frankly, I am not sold on Gipson and Brownlee. We do have #1, 2, and 5 receiver with GW, Mike, and Lazard. We still need #3 and #4. Depending on what they do in the draft, there could be another signing. But it might come after the draft.
Lots of players tear ACLs, not sure how that makes him an injury risk. Take a look at his games played, he really doesnt miss much time, far from "injury risk" Boyd plays a different position, Williams compliments GWs game way better, not to mention Boyd I think wants to go to Pittsburgh
Cool story with the sandwich. Hate to sound so down about all of this but this feels again like we won the offseason and when push comes to shove we have a bunch of old aging players who are set to have down years and get hurt. Hope I’m wrong. But the optimism in this thread feels eerily similar to when we signed Leveon Bell and it felt like a here we go again.
Joe Douglas going all in with a little help from NYJMatt and Morristown Diner. OBJ still on the table? Maybe, but first Jadaveon Clowney.
I wouldn't mind JD signing some other veteran OT who was a camp cut and who has been pretty good, but I hope he goes nowhere near Bakhtiari. I think it would be foolish to count on both LTs being older and oft-injured.
You didn't ask me, but I'd HATE that move. When we have Sauce and Reed, why in the world would went to take a CB high instead of an OT or even a WR. Taking a CB in the 1st round makes zero sense imo.
All in! Really excited about this move. Comes with risk, but a whole lot of upside too. Upside is higher for him than Boyd or OBJ. He's a really good player. And now we can focus on building the offense for the future in the draft without needing to force a need. They need to go WR and OT with their first two picks now. Honestly, really really well done by JD. Gotta go all in for this year without mortgaging the future and I think he's doing that. Yeah maybe it has "won the offseason" vibes, but would you prefer "lost the offseason" instead?
I been posting it enough for everybody. But yeah, we'll be doing just that next year when a healthy Breece Hall leads the NFL in carries and ends up with 2x the receptions Mike Williams will even in the very unlikely event he manages to log a full season.
