Please allow me to politely correct that for you. Load yourself with as much young talent as you can, and guys like that should be depth. They shouldn't be counted on. I would have no problem whatsoever if this is our only such acquisition this off-season, but there have been three. That is 60% of our line, while one of the other guys on the line is coming off of his second straight major injury. We're lucky to see these guys play together more than a couple of times this season.
But we didn't sign the long snapper. We signed a guy who's probably not going to be healthy past Halloween so he's probably right.
Looks a LOT like the same formula...that has not worked. Expecting end of the line players, that can't stay healthy, to protect the QB. Then draft wr that nobody can't throw too, because no time to throw!... Ehhhh...
He's back all right. I knew he'd be sacrificing the future to try and win now, but I didn't have any idea he'd also be sacrificing the present along with it.
I agree completely, and in fact I've been screaming from the rooftops that they will be sacrificing a lot of the future this off-season to try and win this year. But the plan of acquiring as many older offensive lineman with injury troubles as possible just seems like sacrificing the present as well.
Love this move. Tyron is such an insane upgrade over Becton. Tyron hasn't allowed over 2 sacks in a season since 2017. Becton allowed 12 just last year. I hope we still sign Bakhtiari as injury insurance though. This opens the door to Odunze, Nabers, or Bowers at 10.
I swear Jet fans...dam if you do and dam if you don't.... you one of the best OT in FB and people are bitching...he old, he injury history...yea well he made the pro bowl last year too. huar saying.
I'm glad we got him because he's better than what we had, but missing 33 games in 4 years and being his age doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. It feels like another o-line injury waiting to happen.
This could actually work out great for the Jets because the WR's will most likely be gone and Bowers, with his rare explosion and play making ability, will be sitting there at 10. Rodgers to Wilson, Bowers and Hall would be pretty sweet.
This is a 1 YEAR DEAL. Happy he's here but zero confidence he plays 17 games. Please PLEASE go OL @ 10
Nah that's way overkill. You don't use 10th overall picks as injury insurance. The move is sign another tackle as insurance and take Odunze/Nabers/Bowers at 10. The upside of doing so is huge. If they all stay healthy you've gone from bottom 5 talent on offense to top 10. I'd also take a tackle in the 3rd round. 3rd round OL work out more often than any other position. They become starters around 30% of the time.
I’m going back and fourh on fhis. We’ve seen later round TE’s hit so idk if I’d go bowers. and while I wanna be with you in alt,‘how would that be different than the McDonald pick? McDonald was drafted and didn’t play, if we took Alt, ideally he wouldn’t play and this is a win now year.
Please enlighten us as to who could you have gotten that can man that position starting freaking day one instead. And don’t tell me thru the draft. No way no how. The issue of his health was well factored into the equation. Outstanding move.
Outstanding move if it was the only move of its kind. In a vacuum, it's a fantastic move. But unfortunately, the plan of this franchise for the past few years is to sign older guys with injury histories on the offensive line and hope that they stay healthy. Having acquired two other similar guys this week, although of course not on the same level as Smith, just brings into focus that that is the plan once again.
