IDK, if I was a Steelers fan I'd be pretty damn frustrated with that Arthur Smith OC hire atm. Tomlin's inability to figure out any answers on any non-inherited offense since Big Ben fell off is starting to drift into a somewhat "Jets'like" territory of continuous failure.

If they end up being the team to trade for Fields I'm going to have to walk back a lot of of my routinely stated optimism there that given the right situation Fields isn't as far away from being Lamar v2 as a lot of people seem to think. That trade will basically kill his career in a similar way getting drafted as a high lottery pick here does. Just setting him up to fail.

to be fair no coach can "figure out answers" to not having a quality QB - after time you either have one and look smart or don't have one and look bad.

    - Jim Caldwell (with Manning) - what a great coach, took them to the SB in his first season!!!!!!
    - Jim Caldwell (without Manning) - what a terrible coach we only won 2 games sack him!!!!!!
    - Chuck Pagano (with Luck) - great coach - this is going great!!!!
    - Chuck Pagano (without Luck) - what a terrible coach we only won 4 games sack him!!!!!!

This is true, and it makes me wonder if we'll ever get to the point where the league adjusts the rules to reduce the impact of the QB.

There's a really strong argument that the position is simply too impactful as is. When you couple that with how hard it is to find a good QB, it negatively impacts parity substantially. QBs can also play at a high level well into their 30s which only furthers the impact a good one has.

Another way the NFL could look at it is to adjust the rules to make it easier to play QB well, increasing the number of good QBs rather than reducing the impact of them. That's probably more likely because ultimately passing and scoring are good for viewership.

We're probably not far off from it being a penalty to touch the QB in any meaningful way, kind of like how shooting fouls work in the NBA.

That is also too simplistic take though imo. Which to note you could also directly apply to the last few Jets' head coaches if one wanted (just saying)..

As I pointed out in another thread recently I really think the tendency people have to *NOT* look at every QB in direct relationship to the situation they are is a typically flawed one. In the Steelers (and Jets) case I also believe that there is enough of a built of sample size there at this point, void of any real variance you should otherwise expect to find in the results, that strongly suggest it being an organizational issue as much as it having to do with the players you trot out there. Good coaching and support systems matter, and that should be showing up somewhere

Baker Mayfield and the variance in results we see in surrounding system changes there being a great current supporting example of that. If the 2018 draft goes the way everybody expected and Baker ends up going to the Jets at 3, does Baker's career while playing here actually look much different then Darnold's? Does his career arch look much different today after we trade him to Carolina like we did Darnold? I'd strongly guess and argue no (last year he was arguably the only QB in the league worse then Zach).

I'd go as far as to suggest the same with Darnold too. Put Sam Darnold in his current location of SF from day 1 and there is probably a pretty good chance he's sitting on the David Carr production level tier of NFL QBs right now. With a couple playoff berth notches in that belt.

You took a break because you got called out on your bullshit.

Now you come back complaining about negativity while being negative.

    You should've stayed away.

Yeah I always mess that up. No respect put on the guy's name lol. Since to me Carr is just another guy that is a lesser extension of the biggest problem I have always had with the Rodgers acquisition.

This whole "copy and paste QB production over to here and we make the payoffs" mentality just isn't very reality based at it's core imo. 2022 Aaron Rodgers in GB likely ends up looking a lot more like 2022 Matt Ryan (or worse at 40yo+) *here*. Guys like Carr and Jimmy G likely just swap places with our own "these guys shouldn't be starting" counterparts, and where in that alternate reality you have the fanbase here looking over at the 20TD/10INT season Sam Darnold puts up in SF and proclaiming with absolute certainty "If we had a guy like Darnold at QB we'd be winning 10+ games easy!".

Too many people have the chicken or egg order backwards there when trying to see/find the actual answer to the ongoing problem *here*. The QB ain't going to come first, and it sure as hell ain't going to come first with a team/system that simply has no set idea on how to even run anything above a bottom tier NFL offense.

it's hard to win without a QB. look what bellichick did without brady. the smith hiring isn't great but they did just make the playoffs again with shit for Qbs and even got some good games out of mason rudolph. tomlin has never had a losing season in over a decade. it's not even close to our level of failure.
I don't wonder at all. people are super sensitive these days and just want to rant and don't like being called out for stupid comments. sorry i'm not a mindless sheep?
and thats fine because you didn't make a clearly wrong post about them
i took a break because too many old cranky assholes can't have a conversation which again you are proving with comments like this

Actually, you're a narcissist who tries twist things around towards other people. What you actually did was insult everyone and claim that there were multiple messages from people telling you that you're smart and others are dumb (paraphrasing). I asked you for proof, and poof, you disappeared for two months.

I've dealt with people like you many times, it's the same cat and mouse game over and over, circle after circle. I'm done. I'm not sure if I'll block you, but regardless of whether I do or not, you've got one less cranky older guy to speak to.
