The Jets have voided the contracts of Carl Lawson (6.3M in 2024 dead money according to Over the Cap), Duane Brown (4.728M in dead money), Jerome Whitehead (3.3M in dead money), and Quinton Jefferson (1.54M in dead money).

you know, i took a break from here due to the negativity and stupidity. figured since the season is over maybe there would be more normal discussion of off-season things. then I see this post and wonder why I even bothered to come back and look. too many people here have 0 basic knowledge of how the NFL or contracts work but feel the need to try and discuss it

None of these guys were technically cut since their contracts expired and were on the non active roster because, due to restructures, we still owed them all money. Our cap currently sits at 1.6 million. And add safety to the list of needs.
You know, it's guys like this that make guys like me want to avoid coming to, posting on, and reading these boards. I believe the OP was simply listing today's cuts due to salary contraints. There was no other commentary or opinion given in that post was there? This is a public messsage board, no? Everyone is entitled to express their opinion without fear of ridicule, as well as having their intellect or knowledge questioned. It helped clarify for me the practice of deferring money into voided years. I spoke loosely of "cuts" because that is the language we used in my family for both terminated contracts and expired contracts (with the exceptions for players who announce their retirement). I don't remember complaining about the practice of deferring money into voided years (or into simply terminated years, which Over the Cap refers to as pre and post June "cuts"). In any case, I didn't fully understand the practice of deferring money into voided years, so why should I complain about it?
I think the Romans might have been ahead of Douglas and the Jets' schedule. I'm sure they at least had some tangible evidence of progress 13 years into the process.
