"1st and 10 on their own 20 yard line and the Jets have called a tush push" "2nd and 9 and the Jets call another tush push" "3rd and 8 incomplete pass" "punt" Jets playbook 2024
Used to be. It was illegal for an offensive player to touch a ballcarrier for the purpose of giving him an assist. Rule was changed in 2005. Goodell wants it banned again.
If they eliminate it, they need to eliminate the ability for offensive lineman getting a running start into a ball carrier that’s wrapped up by a tackler as well. I find that to be a lot more dangerous and unfair than the tush push. I don’t know how much the two guys behind the QB even help that much. It never looks like they push that much, they’re just there to keep him upright or push if he really gets jolted back. The last thing the NFL needs is more penalties and rules though.
You don’t even have to eliminate it. Just blow the whistle when their forward progress stops. Its the only play I’ve seen where they let it go even when progress has stopped
It helps if your QB has strong legs. Jalen Hurts and Josh Allen are perfect for it, Zach not so much. I thought the Jets, and other teams with smaller QBs, should put in their TE/FB/RB with the heaviest squat max at QB for the play, it’s obvious what you are doing anyway.
The Jets also always forecast what play they're running by not having a running back in the backfield letting everyone know it's some kind of pass, or something similar which doesn't try to confuse the defense at all. It's almost like the Jets are the school bully who wants to just run over everyone with their skill and strength. But they have neither.
LOL! This is why the Jets need to draft their next franchise punter with the 10th pick. He can learn behind Moorestead and will take over the position in a couple of years.
Personally I think the play sucks. Certainly doesn't make the sport better. QB's get credited with more rushing TD's. Bad for Fantasy Football too.
