There are definitely some really good young players on this roster to build around: Obviously the 2022 draft class, but Quinnen Williams is a premium player and his brother was a nice find. Beyond that on the OL you got to hope Tippman can hold down a spot and AVT can get his career back on track. The Jets need to completely rebuild that unit otherwise. I also think Gibson looks like a decent player and Conklin is underrated. There are some players here that make a good foundation. The biggest question mark IMO is the coaching staff. Even without Rodgers there was too much talent on this team to look this bad. 6-7 wins are cosmetic, but we know this should have been a 4-5 win team at best. I really could see Rodgers getting the offense back on track next season. On defense Saleh needs to figure out a way to let Sauce impact the game more. The fact that the defense didn’t skip a beat going up against practice squad CBs was impressive, but also an indictment on how he uses his best players.
Our rebuild was slow but it was going somewhere and was worth sticking with before we pivoted to Rodgers, and all in. But there are still way to many holes and way to little depth. The Browns are a prime example of good building and management. They lost their expensive, all in starting QB too, and are on their 4th starter. They lost their star running back and went out and got Hunt to split with Ford, who was a great find at pick 156. Their on their second and third string tackles. They didn't even have their #1 WR. But they had a GM that immediately went out and got more picks when they traded for Watson, and was proactive anytime a new body was needed. They created the depth to overcome these challenges and still perform well. And they have coaches that gameplan to their strengths. Now they might win 12 games because, even with injuries, they built a deep roster. We lose one player and act like that's a good excuse for rarely even being competitive. The Cleveland Browns, of all teams, are showing us exactly how poorly this team is constructed and run. That statement alone should be worthy of a total house clean.
Just wait till JD mortgages on r future entirely because he knows he won’t be here by then. The conversation’s gonna be “I really would love to re-sign Sauce, GW, Breece, etc…. But unfortunately we don’t have any cap room.”
Oh, you know that is exactly how it will go. 50 excuses as to why we can’t re-sign our own talent. 2025 is going to be a bloodbath and they’ve already proven they have no idea how to plan.
The Browns 3rd through 5th round selections have been awesome. Thats how you build a team. We traded all of those away to move up in the draft.
There have been no positives to this season whatsoever. Finding positives in this mess is just another way of excusing and celebrating mediocrity. The only positive is that it's coming to an end in a little over a week and, since the ownership has decided to slap the fanbase in the face by bringing back Douglas and Saleh, they've given me a reason to finally stop rooting for this sorry sack of shit franchise.
I'm not sure if this is just a general observation or if you're attempting to defend Joe Douglas, but after this season, there is no defense of him. It was marginally defensible when the team was putting a premium on youth, missing on draft pics, and even though they were losing, it seems like they had a good foundation. Maybe he could've improve upon his drafting. Going all in and suddenly taking on age and trading draft picks, and putting all your eggs in the basket of a guy who had 1 foot out the door towards retirement was immensely ill advised, but even then it could've been recovered. But throwing away an entire season out of either stubbornness, cluelessness, or because your boss told you to, is not acceptable.
The truly unfortunate thing is that now he doesn't have much of a choice but to mortgage the future. They don't have a second round pick, they don't have cap room, he essentially hast to do what he has to do to make sure they win in the next year or two regardless of whether he'll be here or not. That's the corner they painted themselves into. We'll have to buckle our seatbelts and be prepared for that. Right now, 2026 and beyond does not exist to this organization. It is as if the earth will implode after the 2025 season.
Wow, I know we want to have hope, but there is very little positive when it comes to OL. AVT - the sure thing we had spent 3 premium picks to get - has been injured for two years now. It's not even certain we can count on him to lock up a guard spot. Tipp has been OK for a rookie who was forced to start, but needs to improve further to be even an average starter. Even the two guys you mentioned have major question marks around them still. And beyond that we got nothing on the OLine. Becton stinks and will be gone. Laken - maybe keep as a back-up for 5 mil? Would he even accept this? He is clearly not a starting level player. We need two starting tackles, and one starting level G to compete with Laken, even if we keep Laken at a low #. On top of that we need two solid back-up at OT, and probably another two interior back-ups. CMG and Wes were awful when they played and appear washed up, even as back-ups. Carter Warren end of the bench level production. Max/Billy straight cut. And then hope and pray AVT doesn't suffer another season ending injury and Tipp improves. Maybe a coaching improvement could make things better, but Saleh said he wants to bring back all his staff. There is a lot of work to do here in one off-season for the GM/coaches who couldn't do it in 3-4. Even with @ouchy as a GM it would be hard to fix this, with JD, forget it.
Zero positives. Stop. I cannot wait until this GM and coaching staff are fucking gone. Abject failure.
This is absolutely spot on. We need a lot of building just to get to the Browns level of o-line. The unique situation in this draft is still there. There is a crack to be exploited that could build not just a SB team, but a dynasty. It would even make us a playoff team next year, no Rodgers necessary. Best of all, we'd be a very exciting team. We'd need a better HC though, and TBH, the work to make it happen would need to begin like right now.
I'm going to have to comment as if Wood"ruff" is going to keep his word and the Three Amigos will be back. Having said that, this team needs to go find the BEST....the absolute "Bill Callahan Clone" BEST offensive line coach on the planet and let HIM decide on who should be on that line. Let him determine who should be drafted this year and go with it. That is the "only" way the team is going to amount to more than 3 or 4 wins in 2024. You could even trot out Wilson. If that line can be fixed or at least PATCHED that will go a long way to what the success of this team will look like. Let's face it, with our cap space and lack of draft capital this is ALL the Jets have and pretty much the ONLY course available.........seeing how Wood"ruff" refuses to come to his senses and blow this mess up. Quick edit...also, Saleh has GOT to find a way to man up, stand up to the players and LEAD them like a man instead of being their "best friend." This penalty bullshit HAS to be fixed! I'll bet we gave a whole game away on just penalties. Probably more than one!
Positives: Jets don't have a 2nd round pick to waste on a bust. Woody won't have an opportunity to hire an even worse GM just yet. Woody won't have an opportunity to hire an even worse HC just yet. Breece Hall Garrett Wilson Sauce The Williams Brothers Jermaine Johnson developing nicely Cornerback depth Greg the leg Moorstead Tippman is going to be good. AVT will be GREAT, if they will just leave him at OG. Hopefully Chuck Clark coming back will make a difference with the Safety play.
What is this crack in the draft? You've mentioned it multiple times, and unless you've got the ear of the Jets organization, I don't see the need to keep it some sort of secret.
Sounds like maybe he has a merger planned with another team. You just cherry pick the existing rosters, transfer the dogs to the team you're going to abandon and get the cap space and draft picks of both teams. Doesn't really look like something the NFL would allow but if he says there's a crack to exploit, I say go for it! Hopefully, the other team has better uniforms; how could they not?
