This is not a news report, but a complete speculation. Also, this "likely" is at this point of time. Yes, if the season ended today, probably they are safe. But there are 6 games to play. If they lose 5 of them, bunch of blowouts, more embarrassing moments, the sentiment may be very different in January.
As a Red Sox fan I’ve seen this movie before. Ticket prices will continue to rise, regardless of product on the field
Brown and Becton are free agents after the season. Light a candle that JD finally figures out that they need to be replaced
As far as the fastest path to winning, I do understand your point that installing new offense may require more work, but if it's some variation of WCO, incorporating some of the stuff that Rodgers designed with Hack, it's not a crazy thing to make work in the offseason. Basically what I think gives us the best chance to win is having a similar situation that Rodgers had in GB. Talented play caller (Moken, Ben Johnson?) calling plays and Hack around Rodgers in a much smaller role like in GB. I know Hack deserves to be fired, but I think a demotion to where he was in GB might be better if we want to give it a go with Rodgers next year. This way we will be set for next year, but also for the years to come post Rodgers, and have a good play caller in case Rodgers is hurt again. If we leave current clowns in place as is, first I am not even sure Rodgers will be as great as he was when MLF was calling plays in GB. Second, if he gets hurt, we are fucked. And then what happens after Rodgers? Rodgers has a decent season, retires, and we keep these clowns? I don't know, maybe it will work, but I just think is is better to make changes now to get the best OC we can get to become a HC and call plays. I mean if Daboll could have come in, changed everything and made play-offs and won there his first year with Jones, why can't a new coach do that with Rodgers, especially if Hack is still there in a reduced role to bridge a gap?
Looking ahead to next year on offense we will have more resources than we did this year. Tippman and AVT are both very good starting offensive linemen and we can expect that they are both likely to be healthy to start the next season. Becton may or may not be back. If we can use enough duct tape to keep Rodgers healthy we have a good starting quarterback. Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall, and Tyler Conklin, and Jeremy Ruckert will all be coming back as weapons on our offense. With high draft picks in rounds one and three along with our cap space we should be able to fill some holes but Aaron Rodgers is going to be the X factor next year. We really need to add at least one great player to the offensive line and to the receiver position to give him an open target as well as time to hit that target. It will be interesting to see if our coaching staff does the smart thing to eat the dead cap on dead weight like Laken Tomlinson or if they keep them around another year so they have more cap room to fill holes now.
Most teams would fire these a holes midseason..but no let them come back another year. Doesn't AR see how bad they are?? Is just about keeping his buddies on the bread line ...just stupid!!!
I agree with everything you said here, but just want to point out that if they wind up with a top 5 pick which looks more and more likely, they could trade back for more picks and still upgrade the OL and WR room.
And probably the best option if it goes that way…however, if it’s a strong QB class and a good one is there when we are on the clock, it’d be hard to say no to that…AR has one maybe two years left, so we will need a QB sooner rather than later, and if AR does come back next year the expectation is we won’t be picking high in the draft… Probably best to trade back and fix OL and add a WR but the temptation will be there to take a QB
if we are all in, i rather target WRs in FA then draft b/c most aren't up to par from day 1. OL on the other hand i agere, first 3 picks should be OL!!
I see two WRs at the top of the draft that I would love to pair with Wilson going forward. That would leave us free to spend our money fixing the trenches. If we can't run the ball or stop the run it doesn't matter whether or not we have Rodgers.
Eh this is just backwards because the reason why they grabbed Rodgers is the pressure to win. So not sure why this is your thought of reasoning. They got a mulligan because this staff didn’t get a chance to see it through with Rodgers. And yes we don’t care for Hackett but let’s face it, he’s apart of the package right now…the process in terms of getting him here maybe crap but they did what they had to secure Rodgers.
This about more than just Kal EL. The Jets have set the bar really low for years now. Losing doesn't mean getting fired anymore. Keeping your job with a losing record seems to be how Woody operates.
Honestly at this point I think everyone needs a fresh start. It really feels like a mistake to bring him back
