The Rodgers Gambit will make or break this regime no doubt about it. Success and all sins forgiven. Failure and the stench will go far beyond the housecleaning that's sure to come. That kind of failure would probably doom any chance of JD getting another GM job in the forseeable future. Saleh most likely will become a DC and probably thrive in that position. Hackett will never again call plays for a NFL offense. Rodgers will be in the booth on gamedays in a suit with a mic in his hand. Zach? I'm pretty sure there's a team somewhere that will take a flyer on him but the odds of a trade are zero. JD's gambit doesn't just affect him, but everyone associated with this franchise including the Owner who will be forced by the media and Fan pressure to clean house or deal with a complete revolt by the players, the fanbase and a media out for blood no holds barred. This is what "All in" really means for this regime..
I have been a fan since the end of Joe Willie's days in green, honestly, this is the first time I really feel like if this collapses next year, there may be very little hope as long as this bumbling buffoon and his equally bumbling brother own the team. If a full house cleaning takes place, there's zero hope they'll get it right with a new GM, new coach and rookie QB...

Once they screw this up, and they will, it's going to be a long time for this franchise in the playoff-less wilderness. Think how bad this team is now with the defense we have and two of the more exciting playmakers in the league (or at least they would be, if we even had adequately competent QB play) in Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall. And then think about where this team will be when they blow things up and start over, and the defensive players either leave or get too old and the offense stays exactly where it is because we either bring in another defensive minded coach or another Adam Gase along with a GM who is more on the Maccagnan level because we source out the decision to a couple of retired NFL guys who hire one of their friends to do the job. There really is no hope for this franchise.
Yup, pretty much. The likelihood is that next year will be a spectacular failure as well - both for superstitious SOJ reasons and because the resources to improve during the offseason are fairly slim pickings. We're on the edge of a precipice where, at the end of next year, we very well could be without a GM or coaching staff, no QB, and, if JD makes good on the rumors about going hard after Adams, bereft of any draft capital. After this latest fiasco (the third obvious interference by ownership in the past 15 years), coupled with 9 straight seasons, and 12 of 13 overall, of circus-like on and off field antics, there is no chance of attracting high value executives or coaches to come here - nevermind the players. We honestly could be looking at another 3-5 years of this. And that could be understating it. Unless we stumble into someone competent, we're in some trouble here.
We need to find the guy who said "Hey... let's have Vinnie Testaverde flip the coin on opening night!"... and kill him.
Carr has been considerably better than Rodgers this year, and costs 23% less money. He also did not cost a single seventh round pick to get there. He can be expected to play another 5 - 10 years rather than simply be an overpriced rental for a year or two. There is no indication whatsoever that Carr has meddled in the hiring, firing or retention of any player, coach or cafeteria worker. Tell us again how great the Jets are doing with their decisions surrounding the quarterback position. Tell us how getting Rodgers puts the Jets closer to being a better team and a winning franchise. Suckering some poor slobs into paying inflated prices for their tickets while fantastic visions of Super Bowls were pumped through their heads does not count. PT Barnum would be proud.
The Zach Wilson gambit should already have doomed this regime. The Rodgers - Wilson gambit going into this season is unforgiveable. None of Rogers friends that we brought in has had any benefit for us. Aside from drafting Tippman and our signing our new punter I am not sure we have done anything to improve our team in the offseason. Rodgers and his friends were a net negative this season and may have tied our hands next year when we should be cleaning house. We really need to draft a first round receiver or sign Devante Adams to put this team in a position to win going forward.
I wouldn't be surprised if they end up sending the 1st round pick to the Raiders for Devante Adams. Whatever Rodgers wants he gets
Really going out on a limb saying Carr has been better than Rodgers lol Carr stinks and is already breaking down at 33 years old. We would be going 7-10 with Carr and running back next year just to go 7-10 again. There have already been rumblings about how if he’s a June 1 cut they’ll have $36 million dead in 2024 but they can walk away from the rest of the contract with $6m dead over the few years after 2024. Using Carr as your argument is not making whatever point you think it is.
Just watch as the Packers end up in the playoffs. Unload diva 40 year old QB with massive contract onto the Jets, get multiple draft picks in return and still make the playoffs while the Jets don't
This FO flat out said repeatedly that they felt we had a championship caliber roster and that Rodgers was the final piece. Now Rodgers is here and suddenly I feel like our FO is a greasy contractor that’s throwing a ton of fees and trash on top of the original agreement. Suddenly we have to mortgage more of our future? Use draft picks that help us immediately over the future of the team? Sign Davante Adams at 31 years old to a huge contract to weigh us down years after Rodgers is gone? Wanna line him up with Lazard who’s already sucking us dry for nothing? No, I want to FO to be accountable. They sold us this charade that they were already a championship roster, let’s see them win with it or show them the door. It’s infuriating that they get a mulligan next year as it is.
Yeah and if they both stay healthy it’d be fun for a year and then we’re ultimately stuck with a 32 year old receiver that has to decline at some point (or just pull a hamstring and enjoy the bag). The receiver cliff is very steep and once they fall of their career is basically over.

Douglas should be fired immediately if he trades a top 10 pick for Adams. He went for a late first and second 2 years ago, it isn't even going to be remotely close to that price + the contract/money associated with him now? I would entertain a 2025 1st for Adams and a 2025 2 Mike Evans is going to cost just money (which we can easily get up to $80+ in salary cap next year). I was listening to Jason Fitzgerald on OTC as a guest on the Badlands podcast this morning and he was saying the Jets are in a better cap situation than most believe. They can restructure a lot of guys on the D which will free up money and those guys have performed so it won't even be detrimental, cut both TEs, + the annual cap increase. They really need to make sure they don't tag Huff because all $23 million of that will count towards the cap. Becton could easily be done on a bridge deal for 1-2 years at $10-12/year where they add 4 void years to bring down the the cap hit in 24.
Yes, we are on the precipice of another long, dark, slog into the swamp of losing, a swamp so big, it's held the Jets for decades. Given their history, this is the most likely outcome. But there is some chance that they could still avoid that fate. First, they need to get rid of Saleh and Hackett and bring in an experienced, proven, winning HC and OC. They could offer Saleh the DC job but I doubt he'd take it, but Ulbrich would probably agree to stay, if not, there are other DCs out there. Second, don't let Rodgers see the field this season. Let him fully heal. And as painful as it will be to watch the losses pile up, the Jets will - again - "win" another high draft pick. Third, use that high draft pick to trade back for more picks. If there aren't any good offers for it, then use it on the best T or WR available. Whichever position they don't take with the first pick use their 2nd pick on the other. Use the remaining picks on upgrading the OL and WR room. Forget defense, they can't afford to spend any more on a unit that's already top 5, even if they slipped back a bit, they'd still be more than capable of being a top unit. If they aren't willing to do these things, fire the whole bunch, including everyone under Woody and bring in a whole new organization that Woody will commit to keeping his hands off. But of course the chances of this happening are paltry.
