That's about as likely as the Jets luring Tom Brady out of retirement so he can compete with Rodgers for the QB1 job next year. As already noted, Belichick hates the Jets, and the feeling is mutual. The Giants are probably the only team Belichick would consider going to. He's on good terms with John Mara and has a great deal of respect for the Giants franchise.
Bill is what 70, 71? Even though he likes Giants organization I can't see him signing up for a long rebuild at his age which is what they are going to have to do. If the Chargers fire Staley, then I could see Bill going there. Talented roster with a good QB in Herbert.
If Belichick wants to continue as a HC, I think you're right. At his age, he'll want a team that he thinks he can turn around quickly. The problem is that he'd undoubtedly want to be coach and GM, and that may be too much even for a team that wants him as HC. That's why I expect he'll go to his next job as something other than as HC, probably as a consultant with a fancy title. If he did that, the Giants would work because he wouldn't be displacing Daboll or Schoen. Draw on his experience and knowledge without giving him control.
The first three Super Bowls were Belichick more than Brady, and yes I know the Patriots started winning when Bledsoe went down, in part because Brady was better than Bledsoe. But if you look at what Brady was doing relative to the elite QBs at the time (Manning, Favre, etc.), and you look at what the other guys on the team were doing, the secret sauce was Belichick, not QB play.
he literally hates the jets. he'd retire before taking a job here. If he was to be available he'd have plenty of options.
It’s well known he hates the Jets. After all he has done for the Pats organization and fanbase for them to be calling for him this fast is a little, quick, don’t you think? I agree with pretty much all of what’s posted in this thread. My hypothetical was maybe he comes to the jets out of spite and in hopes of leaving a mark on his legacy with a big “FUCK YOU” to the Pats. Then again, that could just as easily backfire and we look like complete idiots. With our track record, I’m taking the latter.
I highly doubt they fire him and I highly doubt he coaches another team instead of retiring. he's already 71 and has made his money and legacy. he'd probably just hang them up
Everybody else has already said it, but hell no. Belicheat's not even a great coach anyway. Take away Brady and you're left with, at the very best, an average to slightly below average NFL head coach. Or maybe we should hire him and then at the press conference pass him a note on a napkin that says "You've been fired as the HC of the NYJ".
As possibly one of the most optimistic fans on here, I would bin it off immediately were Belichick appointed. It will not come to that of course, so we're safe.
Sure I'd take him provided he is not involved with the draft. I think he's still a good coach, but a poor judge of talent. Love that he doesn't give a shit about what the media thinks + isn't afraid to sit Qb's when they play shitty.
Ummm…in what world is BB a great coach? If not for Tom Brady, BB would have been back as a DC YEARS ago. wouldn’t want that turd as far as I could throw him.
