Ian Rapoport on X: "From @NFLGameDay: This past offseason, #Patriots coach Bill Belichick quietly agreed to a lucrative multi-year new contract, sources say. That, at least, adds some context to the discussions about the greatest coach in NFL history. https://t.co/ZPjRxzMVzJ" / X (twitter.com)
They’ll have a top ten pick in a loaded QB draft and over $100 million in cap space. I don’t see why they wouldn’t give him one more crack at it. He was 18-16 in the past two years coming into this year.
Yeah, I never thought it was serious that NE would actually fire one of the guys who was integral in winning 6 titles. He leaves when he wants to leave.
Excellent question and here is your answer I think. Belichick's contract over the years has been a secret. The Boston media believe this information was leaked by the Belichick camp to help stop the discussion of him being fired this year. The Boston media has always hated Belichick because he treats them like crap and will talk to the national media before them. This year they are hoping for him to be fired and be replaced with someone who will answer their dumb questions. In any event, it would make sense for money reasons to give old Bill another year. Kraft being a cheapskate will be reluctant to fire him for this reason. But then again who knows?
Kraft knows he won't be able to get someone high profile in there unless he has a bell cow. It's Belichick or some goober that flames out in 3 seasons anyway.
