About a year before my time but wow. Just looked up the stats. 524 yards to 142 for the Ravens. That has to be one of the last times that a team took back two punts. And a fullback went for over a hundred receiving yards.
HA... my parents were living in some boring suburb outside of Atlanta at the time and I drove up to see them for Xmas. I went to what I think was the only sportsbar (or "bar" in general) in town to watch the game. I walk in to see the JETS already up 14, and racking up more against the "the best defense in history"...... and of course in true JETS fashion they managed to shit on Christmas
A game not remembered as much as other nightmares but the statistics alone prove what an underrated nightmare of a game that truly was. The Jets dominated the team (minus those 3 ridiculous plays) that echoed the 1985 Bears and would go on to win the SB - and still managed to lose by two touchdowns
My proof is I still wonder about the Santana Moss and Lavernous Coles trades to this day (Denotay Wilder voice)
Richie Anderson was more like a slot receiver that could lead block. He would have been a cool gadget player today.
Proof that I am Mary Todd Lincoln J. Wilkes Booth, rushed to the front of the President’s box, brandishing a dagger. Major Rathbone caught him by the coat. Booth turned upon him and struck him on the arm with the dagger, inflicting a serious wound. At 10:15, Booth slipped into the box and fired his . 44-caliber single-shot derringer pistol into the back of Lincoln's head. After stabbing Rathbone, who immediately rushed at him, in the shoulder, Booth leapt onto the stage and shouted, “Sic semper tyrannis!” Proof bitches
K F*ck, that game was such a clusterf*ck. For a child that is old enough to remember the sh*tty Jets of the entire 70's, but too young to remember SBIII, this was my first foray into Jets heartbreak.
Wild game and one you would not see nowadays …. Muddy field. Both QBs threw 4 interceptions…Bruce Harper fumbled the opening kickoff which was returned for a touchdown. Gastineau botched a fumble return for a TD … he kicked it 3 times with a clear path to the end zone in fact the Jets didn’t even recover the ball. And yet despite falling behind 24-0 they still nearly pulled it off… Crazy wild game …..
This was my first hearbreak too. It was actually my first year of really following closely for real. I was so young and didn't realize that a playoff appearance was rare for them. The furious comeback was amazing, and had this been a few years later, I would have known we would fall short. But I didn't know....yet. I was positive we'd complete the comeback. And then the INT with under a minute left.....and I was on my way.
Every time I see Laveranues Coles first name misspelled I'm tempted to think I'm correcting a typo on his birth certificate . . . but I know I'm not.
Heidi game and the playoff lost to KC in 1969. Jets had first and goal and failed to score. Broke Joe Namath's heart and mine too.
Jermaine Lewis. Not only pain, Christmas Eve pain. PAIN. PAIN. PAIN. Speaking of Holiday Pain, the Jets are playing on 12/24. Consider it a loss, especially if it actually matters. Pre-emptive expectation of pain.
