    Holy crap.

if we’re going for interesting, Alex Smith would make for a better script. Better symmetry.

Our GM knows Wentz from the Eagles, and Wentz has the best stats by far of actual available QBs, so they should have reached out by now.

Because he knows Wentz is probably why he hasn’t called him yet.

Exactly - besides his terrible play since he got hurt, by all accounts he has been a toxic force in every locker room he's been in. That doesn't matter that much (he wouldn't be intended to be a long-term solution), but it wouldn't surprise me if the Jets were very wary of signing him. If they're looking at former Eagles players, at least Foles has been popular with his teammates.

I agree with all of that and the drawback with Wentz is that he holds onto the ball for too long but he can at least break tackles and run around a little bit.

Foles’s problem is that he simply doesn’t move. I wonder how much of a sitting duck he’d be behind our line.

It’s really pick your poison with these free agents. That’s why I kind of liked the idea of Jeff Driskel. He at least can move around a bit even if he might be worse than the other two on paper.

And this is exactly why we're staying pat with Zach. The best option is Jeff Driskel.

With the state of our line we need a mobile QB with a quick release.

Honestly, that’s what we should’ve hit to begin with

If we're going with a former Philly guy, I'd rather get Foles than Wentz.

Chad Henne backing up Patrick Mahomes in an Andy Reid offense is one thing. Chad Henne backing up Zach Wilson in the Hackett offense is another.

Mahomes is durable and Andy Reid's offense made a lot of bad QBs look good
Zach is hurt every third game and Hackett's offense is complex

No matter who we bring in, they will barely be a better option than Zach. Save the draft capital, stick with the unfortunate best option.

Yeah and that makes sense until the bye. But if we lose like 4 of 5 and he looks terrible you have to make the change.

Guards and tackles are a bigger need than QB. We were never going to the SB this season because our line is so laughably far from SB ready.

I don’t disagree but I will say that sometimes things can evolve. The line was bad but if we adjust and add tightend and back chips it might get better. Players also might start to play better. Maybe we put Tippman in and move AVT to left tackle.

Also - we need to try to make a playoff run regardless of whether anyone thinks the SB is on the table. I think it’s important with a team that has a good young roster like this to learn how to win. We have no shot at being bad enough to try to get Maye or Caleb Williams so I’d personally like to see the roster grow and get better and build a winning culture.

This franchise will never grow if it doesn’t take the first step in the right direction of making the playoffs.

I agree we can still sneak into the playoffs if things go right, and a line can gel over time. But we have terrible depth at both guard and tackle. One or two injuries and its going to be a crime against the QB. We simply don't have enough solid bodies in the line room. IMO getting more depth there will take us further than signing a journeymen to learn on the fly behind our line.

I tend to agree with @Jonathan_Vilma. What we've got now is a team where you're asking the defense to carry the team for the entire season. I don't think that's doable in todays NFL. In addition, you're asking the O players, who are skilled and very capable to play with a questionably capable QB as they did last year which led to the mini Mike White t-shirt rebellion. When you have a QB that can't process his options quickly, the O-line looks bad. However, we saw when a QB knows what he wants to do with the ball, the O-line does fine. I as much as anyone would like to see Zach succeed, however, from what I saw on Monday, he still has the same drawbacks as last year. We will win games with him, but I don't think the playoffs are possible with Zach at QB.

For the right price I would go for Mitch Trubisky. The Steelers have another decent back-up QB, and Trubisky is mobile and looked good when he had talent around him.

that might be an option. not a great one but there are no great ones. he's 3rd on the depth chart behind pickett and rudolph

    Foles don’t have to move.

Throw out Hackett’s shitty system and run a quick hitting RPO. Foles in the shotgun, he can hand it off to Breece Hall or pull it back and flip it down Field. That’s his style and he makes quick decisions

Yeah I get all that and I’m good with kicking the tires on some free agents still out there and all but bad offensive line play is an epidemic in the NFL. It’s the reason why you pretty much must have a mobile quarterback these days. Not sure what you propose we do because we’re not getting anything that’ll really help us at this point.

The Jets would be stupid as hell to not add one of these free agent QB’s even if they end up being chum in the water for d-lines if they play.

And also - the Jets still have the ability to shuffle some line pieces around. We signed Schweitzer and drafted Tippman. AVT can play tackle decently and likely better than Brown. They better start shuffling by week 4 if it stays this bad.
