CC Sanchez wasn't world beater but he showed much more than Zach in his first 2 seasons. He beat both Peyton Manning and Tom Brady on the road. Zach can only dream beating Mahomes and Burrow on the road. Sanchez is old news. Let's leave him where he needs to be. Let's focus on Zach now.
Even Mahomes would get crippled behind this line. I can't believe until I see a single player capable of taking reps at LT.
I’ve watched every game since I can remember and if you scroll back in my posts I was the most excited to draft Zach so there’s no hatred it’s called being real. Clearly something you can’t do, if you think he’s better than Sanchez lol. I’m a realist not gonna sugar coat that Wilson is beyond bad and has never showed a sign of improvement. He wishes he could be Sanchez right now and we would actually have SB hopes still. I wish I could see what games your watching through those lens. He can’t even be a game manager so how is he better than Mark haha
He's not going to play mistake free, but keep in mind NO QBs do. Look at Josh Allen last night. I'm not on the Bills forum but I doubt most there are calling for him to be replaced despite a horrible game. And it's not like that's a rarity for him. He has lots of T.O. and he has yet to win an OT game (IIR the stat they posted last night). Burrows lost, as did Mahomes, and Daniel Jones sucked. No, Zach isn't a good reliable QB yet, and maybe he never will be, but we don't know that he can't be despite all the "experts" here who believe they know more than Douglas, Saleh & Co. We'll soon find out. And while I would've MUCH preferred watching Rodgers march them to their second SB win this year, the "silver lining" is that we're going to find out this year whether Zach can ever be that guy or they see once and for all that he can't be. And even if he's simply mediocre and shows he can't be the future FQB, he could still be good enough to get them to the big game if all the other pieces play like they did last night and they suffer no other major injuries. But for right now they're sitting at the top of the AFC East which is one of the toughest in the NFL having beaten one of the best teams in football. How people can whine about that is simply mindboggling.
Maybe if I knew what qualifies you as a better, more knowledgeable assessor of QBs than me I'd give your opinion more weight, but all I've ever seen from you is assertion and opinion supported by cherry picked facts. And that's okay, that's what we all doo, but it sure doesn't mean I believe your take on Wilson and his potential.
Actually Sanchez didn't do anything more - and perhaps even a bit less - than what Zach did last night. He rode the backs of a great "D" that shut Manning and Brady down, just like the Jets did to Allen last night. And that was after Sanchez struggled the whole season up to that point. And he was still thought of so little by Woody that they went and got Tebow, and then drafted Geno. You and others here may not think much of Zach - not without good reason - but the Jets apparently do. Until he proves that he can't be at least good, if not great, after being given the proper coaching, system, and supporting pieces, anyone who claims to "know" he's a bust is just spouting an opinion contrary to what the professionals paid to know talent are saying.
I am possibly the biggest Zach critic on this site. There is no scenario where Zach or anyone on the team truly expected that Zach would be coming into this game 4 plays in. The entire team was completely shell shocked and in no way was the game plan in place made with Zach in mind. That should have been a massive collapse by Zach. The weight of the moment should have crushed him, especially the Zach we’ve known. Especially after that godawful pick he threw. But he and the whole team kept fighting. There is a difference with this team and last year, and even though he can’t play anymore I don’t think the influence of Rodgers is done yet. I don’t think the story has ended. I think something g feels different, and I think we’re going to walk out of DAL with a win next week.
I'm not going to throw in the towel after we just beat the division favorite with our backup QB. This should be an exciting year. Its not like 99. People forget that we lost a lot more than our QB early that season. This is closer to 2010 - good defense, good running game, with a backup level QB play. If we can stay healthy we should compete for the postseason - which was my main goal this season. IMO there's 3 players we need to stay healthy at all costs: 1. Quinnen. The guy is the anchor of that defense and a game wrecker. He was in Allens head all night. It all starts with him. 2. AVT. If we lose AVT our line will go to pieces. Its already a huge weak spot. 3. Breece. He is the playmaker on offense that keeps us in the game. They have to respect the run which helps our QBs. Honorable mention - Garrett Wilson. Dude looks primed for a big year 2.
We got a chance at the playoffs if they can get a better QB. With Zach we have no chance. Hasn't anyone else watched Zach the last two years? He has been the worst rated QB in the NFL two years in a row.
If you think we're walking into Dallas next week and do anything but hope to come out healthy then I worry you might be too optimistic. Dallas is going to kick our heads in. I said it in another thread. I wouldn't be shocked if Dallas scores 14 points ON Defense.
I feel the most for him. Garrett Wilson's season just went up in smoke. He'll be LUCKY to hit 1,000 yards let alone anything that looks like a "big year."
Sanchez improved his TD-INT ratio, passing yards per game, completion percentage, passing first downs, etc. each of his first three years. Oh and he sucked. But he did improve by both the eye test and the output. He’s not the first QB to have a sliding coach brought in. Michael Vick comes to mind. There was one other big name recently. Tua needed to be taught he to fall backwards.
I think you've made a couple great posts and I mostly agree with them except for one critical thing. Where... on earth... are we seeing Zach Wilson performing in any kind of a tangibly different way than he ever has, all the way back to his first game? His numbers, which were mediocre on a relative NFL-wide basis, were inflated to the positive side by an absolutely incredible catch by GWilson, a lot of yards on two screen passes (good fortune) a few nice runs by Breece and Cook that got Zach out of what would have been tough spots, and a rare instance of no blown layups by Wilson. And we know thats still a part of his game because we saw them in the preseason games... they just luckily didn't show up last night. The Jets staff clearly didn't trust him to put the ball in the air at crunch time and were miraculously lucky to win the game. I hope he gets better. I hope he has a great year. But unless and until we see it I don't think there is any reason at all to expect his performance to be tangibly better than they ever have been.
Sanchez threw 20 interceptions and fumbled 10 times his rookie year. Is that your definition of limiting turnovers? Yikes.
Dak Prescott is almost as much a walking turnover machine as Josh Allen is. I’d be even less shocked that our D hangs 14 on them.
One small problem...if Dallas hangs 14 on us and we are lucky enough to do the same in return...how do we compensate for the other 6 - 10 points the Dallas O lays on us? There is NO scenario you can paint that doesn't have me feeling like we are going to get rolled. None. I love your optimism but I just watched our season go up in smoke. There used to be a poster on TGG who always said, "anything less than a SB is an unsuccessful season." Well, he was right. Even more so when, going into the season, we were in the SB discussion and with the loss of ONE player we are now gone from that discussion and marginally still in the talk to even sniff the playoffs. With the way ZW plays against Belichik coached teams I am almost certain we are, yet again, in the basement of the AFC East. I guess we should be used to this by now.
I think the Jets can make the playoffs. This team is better than last years. Hall will continue to have a big impact that we missed last year. Defense might be better as well. The jets were 7-4 last year positioned to go to the playoffs before it melted down. We just need to have better play from the QB (he couldn't have been worse last year), better coaching decision and just better play overall and the playoffs are possible. I believe with this defense and our run game we will be in most of our games. Hope for the best and maybe we get a positive result like we did last night with the win.
Sanchez was pretty bad, almost as bad as Wilson BUT....Sanchez had some games where he was absolutely superb. The playoff win in Cincy, the playoff Win in New England, the loss to the Colts in the AFC championship to Sanchez showed up but the rest of the defense didn't. Wilson has really never shown that he can be great, the only game was the Bills game last year which was then followed up with just terrible play for weeks.
