There's no way Cobb gets cut even for a day let alone an entire week of game prep and a game. He's been taking starter reps in the slot. He's firmly cemented on the roster.
I'm not saying that he will get cut. He may not. But he could be. It's not like he would go anywhere. He doesn't have to go through waivers, and the Jets could make a handshake deal with him that he'll be re-signed as soon as the roster is "set" and they then place Warren and JBC on IR. That would enable them to keep one of the younger players and not expose him to waivers. Cobb wouldn't sign with anyone else. I know that he's been taking starter reps and he definitely will be on the roster. It's just a way of gaming the system. It's been done before. Cobb doesn't need the reps. He knows the scheme and has chemistry with Rodgers.
Leatherwood is already searching for his 3rd team in 3 seasons, no room for a project I thought Little hurt his back a few days ago, no room to sign an injured player. Ifedi is a possibility but he couldn't beat out Nelson but who do you cut for him?

I get that, but why put him on the roster to begin with. He has shown NOTHING in TC or preseason. Why not keep Dean or another player who deserves to be there for an extra couple of weeks?
Guy, it would be for one day. I know that Rodgers wants him here, and he should be here because he is still a good WR. Cobb was just an example. They could do it with any vested veteran: Cobb, Turner, Bawden, Schweitzer,etc. It's a way of not exposing a young player you want to keep to waivers. Teams work it out with the veteran, get his agreement not to go elsewhere, and then do it.

He’ll be back in a few days. He’s letting the team keep a player on the roster that they can move to IR since he’s not subject to waivers. He can sign back with us as soon as we have the roster spot.
He wasn’t ever all that good to begin with. Jets fans were just desperate to have any WR that made a play or two.
