Just giving a Happy 80th Birthday to The "Man" Joe Willie Namath. Great memories of your career. My father bought season tickets one year before you were drafted. Still the greatest game I was ever at was the AFL Championship vs. the Raiders. The best Birthday present would be another title.
John Schmitt was 80 in December. Joe doesn't touch it unless John hands it to him. Great guys both of them.
Happy B, Joe! The email I use most often has namath in it. I always have to spell it out because of things like, "Namaste, wha . . . ? "No, Joe Namath." "Who?" "Goddamn it. N as in Nancy, A as in Apple, M as in Mary . . . " I always know it's Joe's Birthday because it's the same day as the old man's. I would've posted, but I was too busy gorging myself at a restaurant and guzzling red wine. So I said, "Hey, honey, it's Joe Namath's birthday today!" "Yeah, I know, you never let me forget. How old is he, 80?" I laughed and went, "Yeah, believe that? On that note, Super Bowl III was . . . wait . . . " And then this happened in public:
I was at that game too. Still have the program, with the tickets stapled to it. Just a kid then... whoda thunk that I'd still be waiting, a lifetime later, for a 2nd one... Happy Bday, Joe Willie... hope we all see another, before we mosey into the ether... .
One of the bigger thrills in my life was working with Joe Namath for three days back in the late '70's. People always say... "never meet your hero because you'll be disappointed"... I was not disappointed.
