Still think it made more sense to lock him up and use the different methods of creating space if you need it but I get it. Hopefully he earns himself a nice new 3-year deal next offseason.

....or $37 mil. Don't confuse cash with cap hit.

And here's our 2024 books as a whole.

You can cut Mosley, Tomlinson, one of Uzomah/Conklin and save almost $30 mil... designate JFM as a post-June 1 cut and save about another $15 mil.

Good decision. The $13M obviously was guaranteed for injury and with Becton that's a sucker bet.

Seems like many/most of the 5th year options were declined. Even DROY Chase Young's was

Are you ready to draft a very late 2nd round OT next year and start him immediately if their 4th round OT this year can't be a starter in a year?

If he “earns himself a new 3-year deal” the Jets will be priced out of the market.

Why? If he earns a three year deal and it’s not with us then we are incompetent. Turn down the option, he has a good season, then let him walk when the other option is a fourth rounder in his second year?

I think the key to declining Becton's option was Billy Turner. Note that they signed him prior to declining Becton's option. I suspect that they feel that Turner will stick around next year when both Brown and Becton are gone and having him provides some insurance in the event that Mitchell and their 4th rounder this year aren't both able to start in 2024. They were never impressed with Becton's drive - he was routinely overweight and he refused to come to training camp, even when Saleh was begging him to come during press conferences. I think, in addition to injury risk, they just felt that they don't want to provide Becton a big contract in the future and risk him going back to coming in overweight and unprepared.

This way when he leaves maybe they'll get a decent compensatory pick.

Wishing him the best. I think the decision was risky either way for different reasons

He seems like a good guy to me. And when he was healthy he was absolutely dominant.

The tag would be about $23mm and if he has a standup year, imo he’ll want at least that.

I can see us pivoting to a released David Bahktiari (yes, still) next year. That’s the other option.

This was the right decision. Becton hasn't done enough to earn the option, and if he plays well (which he's more likely to do now that we turned down the option), we can franchise tag him if need be. It isn't like we'll have any other young players worth tagging next year.

Smart decision and a fairly easy one. This year franchise tag is 18 mil, it will probably go up a bit next year, say to 19.5 if it increases similarly as a year before, and who even knows if it increases at all or not. You can also sign him to an extension before new League year. And depending on performance, the number may not even be close to 19.5. The reward of gaining 6 mil in CAP next year in the absolute best case scenario is far outweighed by a likelier possibility that Becton will underperform 13.5, which is no chump change. And if he does play great and put injuries behind him, JD can still sign him to a multi year extension. Smart move. Rooting for him to earn a big contract next year.

No surprise here. I'm rooting for him cause we've seen what he can do even if it was for one year. I hope he capitalizes this upcoming season with the talent around and reminds us why he was the 11th pick in 2020.

$23mm will be a tough cap number to swallow; that’s the expected tag next year for OL.

At this point, imo, the best we can hope for is a good year and a tag and trade to recoup some draft capital. Bakhtiari is a cut candidate if he doesn’t re-structure again.

It’s not a fucking mystery, it’s based on an average of salaries… “who knows what’ll be”. Gtfo.

Your lack of any research at all is frustrating but not surprising.
