Don’t get me wrong, everything indicates they are both very talented. He is younger, but unbelievable quick learner.
Well if he beats out McGovern, then McGovern becomes good depth. Either way we’ve added depth, and future, to the position which is what the draft is all about.
I've always thought that having a great Center was the key to having a great OL, and we haven't had either of those for a long time, since Mangold. I think that drought will be ended with Tippman.
Very happy with this pick. Everybody on the meta verse wanted JMS. He still hasn't been drafted and he was expected to go in the first round
Cause he is not pigeonholed into just playing center. He could play guard and tackle too. Don't worry the Jets might get JMS in the 7th round lol
Interesting that when we took Tippy all the pundits labeled him a day one starter. Giants took JMS and according to them he MIGHT be a day one starter. Answers the question as to why we went the way we did.
I want to devote our resources (when it matters - ie, the beginning of free agency and the first two rounds of the draft) to acquire superior offensive linemen, instead of journeyman re-treads that are always half-injured and falling apart (or "project" draft picks). And when we do make those early draft selections and top tier free agent signings, I want them to be good picks and signings. We never take the offensive line seriously and when we do, we almost always FUBAR the pick. I've been a Jets fan since 1985. The two times in my lifetime that the team took the offensive line seriously (Parcells and Rex), we went to the AFC championship game.
Again, what would you have done? What FA was coming here to save our OL? Who were they drafting at 15 that would fix the OL?
Great pick, he can be our C for the next several years. Just wish Kurt would share his thoughts on the player. I'm convinced he has Creed Humphrey upside.
I would have drafted Penei Sewell instead of Zach Wilson, I would have drafted Jamaree Salyer instead of Michael Clemons, I would have drafted Daniel Faalele instead of Jeremy Ruckert, I would have drafted Tristan Wirfs instead of Mekhi Becton, I would have drafted Josh Jones instead of Denzil Mims, and I would have drafted Tyler Biadasz instead of Lamical Perine. As far as this draft? There's nothing he could do, he got painted into a corner. The center in the 2nd round is fine - I have no idea which one is better (although I probably would have taken the guard from Florida instead).
I think he’s a guard rather than a center. Not too many 6’6” guys survive at the position because it’s too hard to stay under defensive tackles. He’s a good fit for a zone system, but his leverage worries me. Tough to ever be upset with taking a Wisconsin offensive lineman.
