Honestly, Pat Kirwin on moving the chains raved about his mental acumen when calling out protections and his overall leadership at the senior bowl. Tippman is younger and maybe more athletic, but I think that JMS had more intangibles. Again, no problem with the pick. JD obv knows these guys better than me lol.
Well if he’s killing it at camp then sure maybe you pivot and either bench McGovern, or kick him to G and bench the lackluster Tomlinson. The draft is more about the future than immediate starters tho. I just wouldn’t assume a bunch of position changes because we drafted a guy in round 2.
Wow…what a reach by JD here. Can’t believe he thinks he can fix the OL by drafting a guy many thought was a late 2nd round prospect in the middle of the 2nd. FAAAARRRRR JD! Did I do that right everyone??
It depends. Have we fixed the offensive line yet? Or are we just pretending it's fixed like we do every offseason right up until our QB is getting crushed (again)?
A high quality pick for the OL who can provide flexibility. What's not to love? I'm honestly surprised that these highly rated IOL lasted this long. Thankfully for us, a number of teams had other priorities. IDK if Douglas had any insight on that, and therefore felt pretty sure he could get a highly rated OL with the 2nd pick, but it worked out in any case.
Inside is very solid now …. OT remains to be seen. I wouldn’t be surprised if they draft one tomorrow …
I wouldn't be surprised either, but with the flexibility they have with the OL they have already, and the hope that Becton finally returns in form and stays that way (I know, probably wishful thinking, but the Jets know better than any of us if this is the case), I'm thinking they're going to look for a S, RB, DT.
I doubt they start changing positions over him. I’m not sure why people assume that. McGovern most likely becomes a very solid depth piece at this stage. AVT can be moved to OT if needed just like last year. Tippman makes the Jets better either way …they really need Becton to turn it on.
Ok, so you didn’t want Aaron Rodgers, or did you want to trade up to draft an OL? What’d you want to give up to do that?
he has known and worked with Jason Fabini for a long time, and he happens to love him. That’s a good enough endorsement for me.
I love this pick. I'll admit I don't know much about Schmitz except he's highly rated. However, viewing the video they showed of Tippman after the selection, the first thing that came to my mind was Kevin Mawae. This guy is big for a center 6'6" 313, quick and can get out in space and lead the blocking. They also say he's a leader and calls the blocking assignments. I think this guy is going to be another one of the great Jet centers. I only wish we could draft QBs with the same acumen.
