There are 4 OT's that are given a 1st Round Grade I know we are picking 13th and most likely at least 3 of these guys will be gone. Who is your top OT prospect and why?
I don’t know who is right, but I have an opinion on who isn’t right. We can start with wright. He’s a beast and famously has shut down the drafts top Edge rushers this past season. I have no doubt he’ll be an absolute beast somewhere else. We famously run a wide zone blocking scheme and expect lots of lateral movement from our OL. Our developmental RT we drafted last year had THE HIGHEST PFF zone grade for and RT. Coincidence? Maybe, but I doubt it. Wright’s zone grade is very very very bad. IMO he’s well built, just not built for this line. The other guy I don’t want to give a go is SkoPro. He’s Uber talented and the next AVT, IMO he doesn’t fill an immediate or even long term need… unless we play him at center….I mean… starting C?I like his versatility and it fills in an immediate hole while adding talent to the OL unit as a whole. We won’t need to draft another OL this year so picks 43 and 44 could be fun. OK, I talked myself into him, I wouldn’t be pissed if we drafted Peter Skoronski at 13 and used him as our all purpose OL fixer. I don’t know enough about Jones or Johnson to know who is want but I assume both are going to need a some time to develop and have the measurables and pedigree to be top OTs in the league for years. Trade up, trade back, grab an OL in the 1st, wait on OL till later. All options are on the table and I can’t wait to see how it plays out.
I believe Jones will be our pick, and I'm great with that if that's the case. Don't forget about O’Cyrus Torrence. He's also a top OL talent.
I think if you're choosing among the top 4 or 5 OT in this draft you're just guessing. I'd much rather have the 5th OT after everybody else has drafted one alongside a 2nd round pick than try to figure out who is going to be the top performer. At least if that guy gets hurt you still have the guy you took on the 2nd round pick. Just to clarify: nobody is talking about one of these guys being a top 3 pick, let alone the top pick. That tells you that while there may be a great talent or two out there they are clearly not an obvious great talent.
Honestly I don't see any of them being a big step above the others. That's why there's no OT in the top 1-3 conversation. If I had to pick one of them it would probably be B. Jones or P. Johnson but I don't think those guys are any kind of guarantee. I think Skoronski might be the best OL overall but also possibly an OG or C. I think it's just as likely that the 4th OT picked this year is the star as opposed to any of the guys ranked above him. In that situation I think you really want to pick up one of these guys plus another day 2 pick instead of betting the farm on any of them. This even more than the usual fact that two guys are 50% less likely to wipe out to injury than one.
I’d rather have an all pro G than a pretty good T. IMO I’m not convinced Brown to AVT is enough of an upgrade at OT to merit the switch. 13 + 44 + 2024 1st (no conditions) + CD for 15 + AR + DB
