I will laugh so hard if this falls through that I'll probably choke on my own spittle and stroke out. Here's to apoplexy! OK, sorry to disappoint, I probably won't die, but I will shriek like hell that's for sure. I hope this entire idiotic dog and pony show crumbles to dust, and that's only partly because I'm long past being bored of it.
I never thought I'd ever say this, but I would rather have our GM than the Green Bay Packers GM. Grade A stooge.
Interesting to see both sides making a subtle show of concession through the media. JD acknowledges Jets won't pursue Lamar. Gutekunst basically concedes that #13 pick is unrealistic. Just a matter of time.
If the Jets are as good as everyone thinks they will be with AR, the 2024 2 will be what, pick 57-60? Who cares. I'll gladly take the AFCCG and push that pick to a 1.
https://sports.yahoo.com/sources-pa...XlnVCRr57pLXQwBPLrbrikpzaNHJUjIQ89MUeTKPS4q-S Looks like picks going to GB is not the issue. Jets want protection if AR doesn’t play in 2024 with a pick coming back to us in 2025.
This is basically what I've been saying all along. A 2nd this year with a conditional pick next year. The "give back" protection is interesting but I doubt that actually happens. More realistic IMO is the 2024 pick starts lower (3rd or 4th) and the incentives for it to reach a 1st or 2nd become higher than what this report suggests. Something like, starts as a 4, bumps up to a 3 if AR plays 50% of snaps and/or the Jets win 10 games, bumps to a 2nd if the Jets win the division or make the AFCCG, bumps up to a 1st if the Jets reach the Super Bowl. It's also starting to become more realistic that Corey Davis is on this team next year, which wouldn't be the end of the world if they can make the cap work. A WR room of GW, Lazard, CD, Hardman, and Mims is very, very solid. If you can add OBJ on a dirt cheap deal...could be a top 5-10 room in the league.
I still can't see it in ref to Davis. Way too much money to pay a guy who won't take 50% of the snaps barring injury. I see a release or trade if he's not in this deal.
We are not paying AR 4 years if he retires after one year or two. The sticky point is giving a 2nd in 2024 if he doesn't play. I say JD has a fair request to recoup some of it in 2025 if that is the case.
They really do need help at WR. Looks like last year's rookies Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs will be 1 & 2, but they have nothing beyond them other than a couple other late round rookies. They could really use a vet
The conditional 2024 pick is based on performance while the 2025 giveback is for a 1yr rental. Your suggestion does nothing to protect the Jets from an AR retirement; it’s basically what GB wants atm. The reason the giveback is 2025 is bc Rogers does thing on his own time frame, so there a chance the 2024 draft happens before he commits.
