Nobody is going to reach out to a player representing himself. LJ is going to have to make all the moves. This is because there's no cushion between him and the teams and they're all unlikely to put themselves into a contentious negotiation with a player.

There are other things involved also. If you negotiate with LJ you run the risk of going astray of some provision of the CBA accidentally based on his requests or your responses. Things his agents would know but that he doesn't and that aren't normally in your purview from the team's perspective.

how do you know no one has interest? Ya know teams can show interest in a player without desperately flying everyone to the guy's house and begging him to come play for them

Either Douglas and Gutekunst are close to having a deal done, in which case Douglas is right to keep things in good faith, or he's the sucker at the poker table. Time will tell.

It's all about respect... GM is all about relationships with other GMs/teams. Play games & nobody's gonna want to deal with you.

As long as this ends with Rodgers in green and white soon enough that we aren't hurting the team by rushing him in right before the season starts, then it's all good.

I don't know man. Plenty of players have used/played the Jets organization only to get more from another team.

    Most recently Cousins(Vikings) and Hill(Dolphins).

Have you heard otherwise? Since LJ was granted the right to open discussions, there hasn't been one morsel of rumor or data from the media or anyone regarding any team contact. A little odd don't you think? The media who typically jumps at the bit at every turn to do so, particularly with LJ, the highest visibility move out there. So no, I don't know that but I can surmise that much from the silence, without criticism, unlike you, heavily using qualifiers against the Jets trip like desperately and begging as if you actually where there and know what really transpired at the meeting.

That Douglas quote actually gets me excited that there is a potential pathway to signing Lamar if Rodgers talks breakdown. It's on the radar, but only if Rodgers doesn't work out.

Just so stupid on many levels for Joe Douglas to say that… we were gifted leverage

Also puts pressure on GB to get a deal done because they have no other options

Geez, can't anybody here play this game? The message should be "until a deal is done, all options are being considered," even if they're not. Find out where the Packers GM is having lunch and get the best table in the house for lunch with the Ravens GM. Find out where the Green Bay president is having dinner and be there at the corner table with Ravens ownership! Rattle the Jackson cage loud enough and long enough to be heard as far north as Green Bay and as far west as Malibu.

Openly declaring that "we only have one plan" is no message the Jets organization should be sending. Ever.

Douglas may want to avoid antagonizing the Ravens by bidding on LJ. Woody and Douglas certainly want to avoid antagonizing the NFL by giving LJ an offer with a huge amount of guaranteed money.

Basically what is happening with LJ this year is largely due to the fact that he does not have certified reps and Cleveland gave Watson a huge guaranteed deal. LJ is a victim of some of this but he also is causing some of it. He should have reps by now.

Glad to see how JD handled this. LJ is a player with an injury history who is going to demand bank-breaking numbers. His situation in Baltimore should be a huge red flag. Why antagonize Rodgers by playing coy about LJ? Green Bay is already screwed no matter what JD says about LJ. They cannot afford to cut Rodgers and they can't go into the season with him and shell out $60 million to watch him ride the bench. I'm cautiously optimistic that everything is working in our favor right now and there is no reason to try to get cute and rock the boat with some reckless rhetoric.

"Bad Faith" is a term which is used when there is usually a contractual agreement in place. What contractual agreement do the Jets have with the Packers, Rodgers or anyone else? Definitely strange words to use when describing trade discussions, which are completely voluntary.

Making trades with teams to make your team better and maybe ripping them off is definitely not all about relationships or respect lol.

I think what he meant was that negotiating with LJ when the Jets are still all-in on AR would have been bad faith negotiating with LJ.

At least that's how I took it.
