I don't hate him as a player, but I would have preferred an upgrade. He's pretty limited, gets lost quite a bit in coverage and does what he does, sniff out bubble screens and make solid open field tackles. I'm not seeing the steady improvement that others are, I guess.
Fair assessment. I agree in a sense but the deal SEEMS fair in the surface, knows the system, is still young and quite possibly be a reason the real Q stays. I have nightmares of LBs past that they let go that killed it in other cities: Vilma, Davis, Farrior.
Your assessment is fair. He's not the most aware player. But he plays fast and loves the game. This may not sound so impressive, but the Jets are somehow always starved for this type of player.
I like Quincy a lot as a player, this is a fair deal. Although we will never know for sure, if we resign Quinnen and this even helped in the slightest it will have been worth it.
I could be wrong, but wasn't Davis pretty much the exact same profile as Quincy when they let him go? LB that used superb natural athleticism to get 100 tackles a year on poor teams but didn't have a diverse enough skillset or the perceived football IQ to warrant investing in longterm? Am I remembering that incorrectly? Because I feel like this situation is really similar and I'm glad they made an effort to keep the talent in house for just money this time.
He’s ok and they gave him a deal for an ok player. We need to improve the position though. If his brother wasn’t one of the most dominant IDL’s in the league, we should’ve signed him for $4 mill/year or let him walk.
The different between him and Demario Davis is that DD always read the play 100% correctly and overran the ball carrier by a mile rather than staying on his back hip to make the tackle. He fixed that in New Orleans. Quincy is a sound tackler when he reads it correctly but often makes the wrong read and shoots the wrong gap. I don’t know if film and experiences fixes that or what. It’s wild because he’s had 4-5 games since he’s been here that he looks like Ray Lewis. And then the other percentage of the time he looks like Victor Hobson lite.
He's a little rough around the edges, but he's an electric player. Very happy to have him back at that contract.
That kinda sums up his play. Rough and too often out of position. But very physical and electric player that can amp up the D as well. Contract seems a bit rich tbh, but I’m glad to have him. As long as you are pairing him with a more stable player like Mosley, you can let him take some chances. We have no ILB depth either.
