So here we are, less than 24 hours into the free agent period and, as there is every year, there are about 5 threads of people in a complete panic because the Jets haven't signed anyone yet. And then there are the dozens of threads suggesting that the Jets sign every big name free agent or malcontent out there, from TO to Culpepper to Givens. When will Jet fans learn that signing big name free agents is not the way to build a team. Relax. The offseason lasts until July. We've got a long way to go, both in terms of time and in rebuilding this team.
For real man...Are fans of the other 28+ teams who haven't made a deal today bitching as well? It's the 1st freaking day.
Haven't seen any big-name malcontent threads in awhile. Really we missed some of the big name linemen...and that's a shame... To quote the Beatles, "All we need is Line" or something like that!
The same thing happens every off-season. A lot of the fans need constant immediate gratification. Patience is rarely a virtue possessed by Youth. Hopefully our young GM has a bit more patience than our young fans. The real trick to FA is not who we sign but who we do not sign. There is a huge temptation for GM's to overspend and make an immediate impact by signing name players. Especially for a GM that is young, inexperienced and lacking in respect. While that strategy may look good in the short run all it leads to in the long run are Pacrellian type cap defeicts. Hopefully we will never go back to such a cap hell. Once you are in cap hell it is almost impossible to get as out as you have to keep borrowing from future cap years to pay the bills from previous years. Hopefully our GM will follow the philosphy of Bradway and not overspend on FA's and sign some reasonably priced low budget FA's to fill some of our holes at RT, NT, CB and OG to keep us in a position to be competitive this year while we continue the rebuilding process we started 5 years ago.
It's funny how every year people scream great moves for March champions last season like the Viking and Raiders but forget when those teams do nothing in November, December and January. Peace out.
Exactly. Then they'll probably go and criticize how the Redskins kill themselves by signing every FA. Bunch of hypocrites.
good whoring. very good whoring. seriously dude, are you just saying random things to get up to the 500 post count minimum from GM? DAMN YOU GREENMACHINE!!! AHHHH!!! :rofl2: jk
The most ironic thing is that everyone here wants us to do everything like the pats. For some reason, the people complaining don't seem to realize that the pats (and most of the other successful teams) rarely ever make moves so early in free agency as the 1st signings tend to be overpaid.
I'm usually a patient guy when it comes to the NFL FA, but I really wanted Shaffer badly, and Kemoeatu. Now that they've signed elsewhere, I'm almost depressed.
The only big FA we signed last year was Law, who had his best season ever and was the only Jets player voted to the probowl. Yet we only could keep him one year. I can't remember a FA signing worth a crap in the last five years. Yea, so I would like us to get in the FA game and sign someone that might actual help the team.
In the past few years we havent signed many players who did a lot for us for except 04 when we signed Barton, Barrett, and traded for Mccareins. Last year the only big name player we did sign was Law who was great for us and now hes gone and tradin for Coles was good for us and will be even better once we have a QB to throw to him. Other than that we havent done much but Dumbway isnt the GM anymore so things will change.
Stop complaining.. At least we Interviewed Tebucky Jones today! hmy: Of course I am being scarcastic. :breakdance: Veteran leadership is good to have, however save the cap space for somebody else. With TBuck being the first interview, anyone can understand our frustration as fans.
I agree that the Jets shouldn't sign FA in a rush, but I also think that the Browns really upgraded their team with FA the first day.
Patience will pay off There are many different ways to lose a game: Our quarterbacks go down our line sucks or our wide recievers can't catch the ball. Right now we have all those problems and they cannot be fixed by one big signing. We need depth at these positions so when our players do go down we have a fighting chance to save the season.
