he hasn’t been hired as a head coach because of legal troubles in his past

NFL owners are scared of that shit and would rather hire failures like Paul Hackett’s kid instead

OK. Your opinion. N Hackett has been anything but a failure as OC. And most in the business don’t see it either. Who do you think set up the game plan for the number one running game with the Jags, with arguable sub par talent in total offense and no QB, the idiot that fired him next year after screwing up the team, Marrone?

    Shit talking Marrone really?

Other than his dad, Hackett owes his entire career to Marrone. He was completely unqualified to be an NFL coordinator when Marrone brought him from Syracuse U to NFL offensive coordinator

and Hackett was a historic failure in Denver. I can count on one hand the number of NFL coaches that were fired midseason their rookie year and were talking about some really shitty coaches

You keep going back to Denver. Over and over, where he was the HC.

Hope he succeeds but does this hire make sense with anyone other than Rogers at QB?

Don’t bother. You’re arguing with a guy who pretends to know all about Hackett’s tenure in Denver then in another thread says he doesn’t know who Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick are.

Oh yah those guys really lit the league up

besides if they were any good what does that say about Hackett? He had those great recievers and Russell Wilson and they were dead last in scoring

While we are making sweeping decisions based off a one year sample size... he had a top 5 offense with Blake Bortles, Fournete, Marquis Lee and Keelan Cole when he was the OC in Jax, the position we hired him for. What's that say about Hackett?

And in general you just can't be taken seriously when you're talking about football if you've never heard of Tim Patrick or Courtland Sutton.

It says it was an outlier. He was fired the very next season when they were 31st in offense

Imagine hanging onto that? Ok yeah I was a tire fire in Denver with one of the league's best QBs, but I did have 1 good season 6 years ago with the mighty Jacksonville Jaguars

Glad it instills confidence for you haha

Look…he’s had a few good seasons and some crap ones, notably as HC at Denver where his offense with a very good borderline HOF QB sucked. He didn’t call plays at GB, that was LeFleur, and again he had a first ballot HOF QB there. He was criticized for not being able to tailor his offense to the skillset of his QB in Denver…one of the very same criticisms I’ve heard many times here about our former OC.

I think there are plenty of red flags with Hackett…and probably just as much bad as good.

personally I’m not a fan of the hire…we’ve tried retread fired coaches and they haven’t worked for us…and I’ll admit I absolutely HATED his father as our OC back in the day…I know it’s not him but I’m assuming he learned a lot from his dad.

I like that he has experience in the role and at least has had some success, but I’m just not excited or inspired by the choice.

I hope he proves me wrong and at least gets us to top ten offensively…then I’ll eat my words and be happy to do so.

Again I just want to make sure we have the rules clear here. We have to ignore Hacketts career as an OC where he’s had success levels ranging from horrid to top five and instead we should be basing him off of the one year he was hired to be a head coach where his system was blown up because the team traded for an aging quarterback who didn’t fit the system at all. His best year as an OC is the outlier. Not the one year he was a head coach, a position we didn’t hire him for.

So Russell Wilson was an “aging” hindrance to what would’ve otherwise been a glorious Hackett led offense?
At 33 yrs old at signing and with a great track record of success. Wilson was the problem ?

But Derek Carr would be an excellent signing?
At 32 yrs old next month with little to no track record of success.

Do I have that right ?

it’s amazing the mental gymnastics this fan base will go thru to convince themselves the next move is always the right move.

    Hackett may do well here.
But it’s about as uninspiring an offensive hurt since Gase. And maybe Hackett Sr before him. I think we need to sign Rodgers to make this make sense.

I said his system was blown up, which is accurate and confirmed by almost everyone involved. I never said Russ was the problem. He was one of many but when you come in and demand the coach change his playbook then you play poorly, you’re a big part of the problem. So no you don’t have it right. Hackett was a terrible head coach but we hired him to be an OC and to run the offense he dragged Bortles to a top 5 ranking in and made Kyle fucking Orton average.

I have a hard time with some of these arguments in favor of Hackett…

his track record is more bad than good….one good year in Jacksonville followed by a terrible year that got him fired…success at GB with a HOF QB where he didn’t even call the plays…I put about as much credence to Rodgers’ praise of Hackett as I do to Peyton’s praise of Gase…which is exactly zero…didn’t mean shit…and yeah, he failed at Denver in the HC role which is clearly MUCH different than the OC role no question. But it’s a bad look when the failure is on the HCs side of the ball…Rex failed here but his defense was always top ten…he failed because he couldn’t figure out the offense. And to lay all the blame at the feet of Russell…a HOF caliber QB who has been to Superbowls and absolve the guy who put in the offense makes no sense…why couldn’t this offensive guru figure out how to tailor his O to fit the skill sets of a QB with Russell’s credentials? It’ll be fun to see if Sean Payton can get Russell back on track….

but regardless…Hackett was probably last on my list and I’m not excited at all with this hire…I guess the saving grace would be if he does manage to coax Rodgers here, but we’ll see.

I am pessimistic on this hire and if it blows up Saleh will be the one to pay for it, but we’ll see…

Rex Ryan's defense was 19th or worse in points allowed for 4 out of the 6 years the coached here. His defense excelled in yards allowed but was 11th in 2013.

Serious question… Who either on this website or in general has laid all of the blame for the Broncos failures last season at the feet of Russell Wilson?

It's a slap in the face to even compare him to Rex & Gase. Those guys were able to make it through a season at least. Hackett should be compared to the small handful of guys that were fired midseason of their first year like he was.

Lou Holtz, Pete McCulley, Bobby Petrino, Urban Meyer, and Nathaniel Hackett. The only guys so terrible they couldnt last 1 season. Holtz, Petrino and Meyer would never work in the NFL again. McCulley would spend the rest of his time as a position coach.

Hackett is the only one with an organization dumb enough to make him offensive coordinator, let alone the very next season

It's not quite apples to apples there. 3 of the coaches you mention had never coached in the NFL in any capacity before being made an NFL HC, while McCulley had only been a position coach in the NFL before he was made HC of 49ers. His pattern would match Hackett's. It's not saying much, but I don't see how the other 3 compare at all besides being fired in the same year as hired.
