We have no way of knowing what permissions the Saints had but it would be pretty dumb of the Raiders to say “facilitate a trade but don’t discuss the contract which is the biggest sticking point for any team trading for Carr”. That’s how no trade gets worked out. Or… that’s exactly what the Raiders did and Carr said ok then release me so I can talk to them about my contract. Either way the Raiders botched this.
Carr was under contract. The Saints and Carr both knew what he was getting in a trade situation. If the Raiders gave the parties permission to talk to facilitate a trade and instead the opportunity was used to discuss contract terms that's tampering.
I know. I responded to this the first time you said it. We are missing too much information to claim that tampering took place. 1. We don’t know what permissions the Raiders gave the Saints unless you can find the report somewhere. I can’t. 2. If the Raiders specified that New Orleans couldn’t talk money then it’s no wonder a trade couldn’t be worked out. No team was trading for that contract without restructuring how the money hits the books for the remainder of it.
I really hope this deal gets done. I DO NOT want to give up picks for AR, would i like him on the jets? sure but picks and he is maybe one year and done. That is just not a good deal and its too short term. Carr is a very good QB and is available without us losing picks and could be with us for a good amount of time. This would be a great pick up for us if we can make it happen. We have a lot of offensive weapons minus the main one.
Interesting, on PFF's website they're projecting Carr to only get a 2 year/60M deal with 32.5M guaranteed. If that's the deal, I sign up for that in a heartbeat. Not sure if that's fully accurate but PFF is usually pretty close on their projections, so we'll see. I might even throw on an extra year and make it a 3 year/90M with a little more guaranteed if it gets the deal done.
I was going to say the worst part about that deal is it’s only two years. I’d take that in a heartbeat.
I think Rodgers timed his retreat to coincide with the Carr visit. My guess is he was hoping the Jets would sign Carr and he would be out of play for us. Remember, he does not have a no trade clause and if he is traded to the Jets the only thing he could do is retire if he doesn't want to play here.
Interesting tome that we really haven’t heard anything substantial coming out of this gs are sure different with JD than they were in the past…no leaks at all We are in such an awkward spot….I think Rodgers is the better player but who the fuck knows what he will do, there’s a lot of drama with him, and it would suck to miss out on Carr because of holding out for Rodgers and then have him not want to come here anyway. Losing both would take the two best options off the table I think. If that happens, then I think it would have to be Jimmy G or a trade for Tannehill, because outside of that, the options are basically backups like Minshew, Brissett, Mayfield, Dalton and the like. None of those are selling tickets or getting the fanbase excited and I think all of those would be regarded as the front office failed to get a real QB.
I mean, Darlington is pretty well connected. It could still be conjecture but I would say, worst case, it’s informed conjecture. I don’t see him saying something like this on national TV on a whim.
I worked for one of the big four professional sports leagues for a bunch of years, not the NFL, so I got some pretty good insight into how the whole thing works. It’s not rocket science and it’s definitely somewhat assumed but these national guys get in with a particular agent or agency because they are covering players across multiple teams and that only stands to help the clients. Local beat guys end up getting team sources or other sources very close to the player, sometimes the agents as well. This regime seems extremely tight lipped which is why you haven’t seen the beat reporters break many big stories if any at all. There’s a reason why when Schefter tweets something big it’s sometimes “sources tell myself and _____” with the space being the local reporter. It’s so that it makes ESPN’s local coverage look legit. Trust me the source (the agent) is only telling the guy that can help all their clients.
I am more for signing carr. Younger, not parting with pics… plus I worry about how rodgers would be with the media here.
I’m glad we messaged in private, but I also owe the board an apology. What I said was way out of line. I have seen alternative means of spirituality literally save lives in my life. When I see Rodgers saying he’s taking 4 days in a darkness retreat, it’s literally exactly the same to me as him saying that he’s taking a few days to pray with his pastor and family to ask God for help on what is a big decision for him. Neither of which I see is wrong. But the truth is I’ve seen Christianity save countless lives as well, and for me to attack it in my attempts to remove a stigma against spirituality was unbecoming and goes against everything I stand for. I need to be better than that and I’m sorry to anyone I offended. I think in the faceless world of message boards coupled with the constant anger and disappointment in everything the Jets do lately i removed my own humanity and empathy. Behind our screen names are real people with real emotions and I need to be better about controlling mine. Again, my sincerest apologies to those I’ve offended.
The problem with Rodgers is that he’s been super insulated in Green Bay and has been surrounded by who he calls his friends (Cobb, Baktiari, Tonyan, etc.) during his tenure there. Obviously guys have come and gone but that’s an organization that drafts guys, develops them, and keeps them and they don’t bring free agents in often. It’s just a different culture than every other team in the NFL. My worry is that he comes here, doesn’t gel with the locker room and like Favre wants to move on very quickly or retire to go seek another situation. Carr makes the most sense.
