Position he really excelled at was Left Guard, great that he can fill in at tackle but dont you really want to put your best players at their best spots ie all pro guard vs average tackle?
I thought he was well above average as a tackle and they ran the football behind him frequently when he was in that spot. I think it is a fair consideration to keep him there
It will be decided by who they can acquire. It's possible that he winds up as the best option for LT where he did well, especially for a rookie being bounced around in different spots.
Depending on our options at tackle in this offseason we could plug AVT in at RT this year and move him back inside next year. That way if we add a stud guard or tackle this year we can slide them over to Tomlinson's spot when AVT moves back inside.
i think the need is a little over rated. I see people say they want a FA and use the 1st pick and get a 2nd round center. The oline had a injury problem. If they get everyone back, they will be fine. I agree using some picks for depth but this whole reebuild is nonsense. If Rodgers comes here - i think Brown will come back to play LT. LT- Brown or use top pick on a T. LG - Tomilson C - RESIGN MCGOVERN RG - AVT RT - Becton/ Mitchel
Brown is back for sure right? That contract was a strong 2 year deal. If thats the case they dont need to draft a tackle. I'm not sure I trust Joe Douglas to do that anyway.
Brown is under contract, but I don't think he was good last year and he'll be 38 this season. He also has a big cap number and they can save $9.7m by releasing him with a Post-June 1st designation. Is he worth it at that salary?

You can never have enough offensive linemen. According to studies NFL offensive linemen have the highest probability of knee injuries than any other position on the team. Weight is obviously a factor.
Poor o-line play is hardest to mask. It holds back the entire offense. QB doesn't have time to let plays develop. No lanes for running. Ruins an entire offense. Sent from my SM-S906U using Tapatalk

I hope the Jets target John Michael Schmitz (C) in the draft. They could probably get him with their second rounder, but they may need to move up a little bit. I'd rather just replace McGovern with our center of the future. Can't rely on Becton, so it's probably worth drafting a tackle somewhere in the mix. Mitchell/AVT/Schmitz/Tomlinson/ (Fant, Becton or pick).
Tbh inwould try to keep both fant and McGovern if the price is right, we have too many holes to fill on oline to let even average players go. Ot sucks but without them the only set piece we have is AVT. Mitchell is good too but we don't know his eaxact fit yet and recall both those guys were injured. We have a leaky ship, lets not drill more holes.
The change from grass to turf was and is a huge factorn as well. There is no give with turf. There was when the fields were grass and mud
