Sadly, had Saleh hired an OC with experience from day 1, we may well have a QB ready to make the big leap forward heading into his 3rd year or at the very least know for sure whether he's a complete bust or a salvageable talent going forward. Honestly, I have no clue what ZW is right now, my thoughts are that he's the former and not the latter, but one thing is sure, MLF did the kid no favors. The caveat being, the tragic death of Greg Knapp didn't help either one...

If we hired Gase as OC instead of coach, and we had Peyton Manning at QB, it probably would have worked. So if we get Rodgers, Hackett will probably work, at least for as long as Rodgers lasts. But if we don't get Rodgers, we're probably screwed.
Both GB and Rogers have the Jets bent over a barrel. The Packers are likely going to try to get absurd compensation in picks, and let’s keep in mind Rogers probably won’t approve it unless his contract is torn up and he’s given a shit ton more money. He’s probably gonna want 50m a year guaranteed money.
Nobody has the Jets over a barrel unless there are no better quarterbacks available in the NFL than those already on the roster.
The issue becomes if Saleh and JD have the balls NOT to sell the future for what might well be perhaps a 1 or 2 year rental. They could still give Woody what he wants. They've already met part of the mandate hiring a OC with prior experience. Now they need to look past the shiny object and deal with the QB position logically. This cannot be about Zach's development anymore although they're saying exactly that. Just because Zach had Rodgers as his idol doesn't mean the Jets should shell out additional millions for a mentor. Zach could just as easily sit behind Carr or Garrapolo or even Tannenhill and learn. Zach may not like it, but in the grownup world the rest of us live in we don't always get what we want but most often, get what we need.
Look, I was all for LaFleur losing his job, but it is unfair to make him solely responsible for the mess that is Zach Wilson. He had nothing to do with Wilson's habit of throwing WR Screen passes into the sixth row of seats.
