At times this season, especially when Breece Hall was tearing things up, it looked like we had a great stable of running backs. But the running game dropped off a cliff at the end of the season, right when we needed it to give us an identity on offense. My question is: did the woeful offensive line make our backs looks worse than they are, or do we need to invest at the position in the draft again? We can't count on Hall being back at anything like his old self next season, so even if he makes a full recovery we are looking at a big question mark over the position until he (hopefully) returns to full strength in 2024. I'm thinking a third- or fourth-round draft pick could be allocated to finding a decent running back. With all our other needs, what do you think?
We need to add another back but the running game suffered the worst from the shitty passing game moreso than anything else. We even saw it yesterday. The run was there until they realized White can’t throw the ball. The entire off-season should be centered around fixing the line. I just don’t get why it’s so hard for the Jets. The Seahawks rolled three new starters out there including two rookie tackles and it’s worked out pretty well for them.
The line is an issue, but the bigger issue IMO is MLF’s tendency to abandon the run at the first sign of trouble.
Both good points. I wonder if the staff will think we are set as long as they can beef up the line. Getting AVT back will be huge.
Another thing I cannot understand is that we rotate running backs all the time, but when we do bust a 15 yard gain, we immediately give the guy the ball again the next play often the same exact looking play.
Did James Robinson get abducted by aliens and taken to The Void? He opened his mouth complaining and that was the end of his Jet career evidently. Looks like he got iced for the rest of the season.
I think its more like he always fucking runs on 2nd down if its an incomplete pass on 1st or they gain about 5 or 6 yrds. I don't have the stats but there is too much predictability on 2nd down. IMO.
I believe he's starting for the Alpha Centauri Satellites and playing out of this world. Don't understand this team. Players make bone head penalties week after week and nothing is done. But, the minute a player complains they ride the pine indefinitely. Robinson had a nice touchdown against the Bills in that huge victory. I guess Douglas must have some can't-miss winner pegged for the 5th draft pick he didn't want to relinquish to the Jags if J-Rob cracked 600 yards.
I agree we need another running back, and there will be plenty in the upcoming draft and get a solid power back in 5th round. OL is the key. We drafted a total of I believe 4 OL in the last 3 years of draft picks. And imo we did better than picking up the OL then acquiring ones in the FAs. That said, I think we should opt to take 2 OLs in the upcoming draft, along with a LB, QB and RB and physical &big Receiver.
They could have handed him the ball every play for the rest of the year and he wouldn't have cracked 600 yards. He's clearly not healthy.
They'll say it was because he wasn't 100% healthy. But the reality is we realized we didn't want the 6th to become a 5th...in 2024. We sat him in a huge game against his former team to prevent a 6th from becoming a 5th - two years from now.
In what, 29 attempts coming back from injury. The entire league knows Robinson is a great RB. Its not a secret.
Against the Lions our backs had 17 rushes for 38 yards. Against the Jags our backs has 11 rushes for 11 yards. But okay, James Robinson is crap.
This is another reason I hate MLF. Apparently the way he keeps his chirpy guys in check (which is an indictment on him to begin with) is to bury them. Third time in a year this has happened. Huge red flag.
