Congrats to Geno Smith. This guy went from getting his jaw broken by a teammate in training camp to starter, Pro Bowler, and a guy who’s about to get a hell of a payday.
Geno's pay day is going to be maybe 3 years and $60M. Not chump change by any means but not a huge windfall as QB contracts go.
Still skeptic that he’s gonna get a hell of a pay day. But it will be a nice chunk for sure. Don’t think anyone is gonna give him what he thinks or long term for one year. But we will see Sports teams do some wild things with money and contracts as we see in MLB this offseason
He's an inspiration and a role model to anyone who needs to persist to gain their goal. I hold him in high esteem for this.
According to this article QB’s make an average of 7 million a year. Making 3x the average pay for your job would equal a hell of a payday.
Happy for Geno ... he, like most QBs who have come through here got a bad deal. Had anyone re-checked his "weapons" in 2013 and 14 with the Jets?? I mean OUCH! GENO early reminds be a bit of Zach and as much as I criticize Zach, I actually mean that in a good way. Geno always had (still has!) just ridiculous arm talent. Right now he throws one of the prettiest balls in the NFL. He had Zach's symptoms... first read only, bailed out of the pocket way too soon, no pocket awareness, wth was he thinking type of throws .... I always thought if he could have time to work on those things he could be good. So maybe hope to Zach, I'd rather her learn by sitting for 1 or 2 years instead of 7 though. As for Geno, unfortunately, his age will hurt his QB contact massiveness. He will likely get 3 years / 60-75 mill which is still substantial. His likely landing spots: 1. Seattle 2. TB 3. Carolina
Pro Bowl committee should probably of waited until AFTER Geno's showing against the vaunted NY Jets defense before making this call.....just sayin!
Good for him - I remember early in the draft process he was being talked about as a top 5 pick, then he started to slide on the mocks but still I felt like when we got him in the 2nd round it was a potential steal - never worked out for him as a Jet (obviously - it never does for QBs) but glad he has managed to find his feet somewhere (still not convinced he is a top tier QB but still done better than any other QB we've drafted since Ken O-Brien - the last Jets drafted QB to make a pro-bowl I believe)
I don’t know if I would say he has done better than Chad Pennington yet. He took 2 different teams to the playoffs and was Comeback Player of the Year TWICE.
Penny appeared in numerous playoff games and while he never put up single season stats like Geno’s this season I’d say he had a better career than Geno overall at this point. Geno is clearly physically superior to Pennington and he doesn’t have a lot of wear and tear on his body because he’s played an average of 6 games a season. He has time to pass Pennington statistically and if he lands on a good team he could end up netting more playoff games/wins as well.
In terms of who ranks higher on the ideal QB scale put me squarely in the CP camp. 2nd best QB drafted by NYJ and not even a close 2nd imo.
The only QB that I can remember that was close to being as hated as much as Wilson is Geno and now we are all congratulating him. Too funny.
We got three starters on defense: Quinnen Mosley Gardener And Hardee made it on special teams. Oops, didn;t see the thread. Sorry. Brook? EDIT - thanks Brook.
