Well to the plenty obstacles that have come it’s way. - Becton in training camp working his way back, JD goes to sign Brown. Becton’s knee gets wrecked. Brown has been solid at LT - MC2 the “starter” initially, team realizes Hall is the clear best back, takes over rather quickly as RB1. - Quinnen barking at the defensive staff about the blitzing…team runs a ton more 4 man rushers/playing Q more. Q establishes his dominance soon after - Around that time, Reed said the team needs to meet and address the back end issues. Soon after, Jets run a ton more man coverage, the secondary becomes one of the top tier units in the league. - AVT moving around basically as the best OL on the team and playing the best position possibly that current week/putting Herbig as the starting RG. Felt like the OL found itself during this time. Even with AVT going down, for the most part, Brown/LT/McGovern/Herbig have been playing well. Max Mitchell progression has been elevated and he’s showing he’s a starter at RT. - Lacking some punch initially on pass rushing downs, Staff takes Huff off inactive list, gives him strictly pass rushing downs and has made a few game breaking plays. - Garrett Wilson clearly showing he’s the best WR on the team, the staff puts him in positions to get on the field/ more snaps. - Saleh felt the running game was leaving “meat on the bone” puts James Robinson (still getting acclimated to the PB/likely on a “bum knee”) inserts Bam Knight who sparks the run game with a bit more pop and power. - Signing LDT/waiving McDermott. These moves seemingly come right with Max Mitchell coming back, signing LDT to solidify the backups/ and George Fant being ready to practice. - Zach regression/lack of accountability…goes to Mike White. Offense looks rejuvenated and played it’s best game of the year. I’m sure there’s more but the staff has been quicker to react to “fix” the myriad of issues that have come throughout the season. I’ve been more impressed in that regard considering this is a young team and a young staff…they’ve far exceeded expectations. Let’s hope they continue to put the team in the best positions to win.
If the Jets continue to win, then it will come down to Saleh and Daboll, even KOC in Minnesota, should be interesting to see who gets it
It took balls to bench Wilson for White and it paid off. Very impressive show of both humility on the CS part and shrewd acumen from JD by not vetoing the move. The guys actually like Mike White. Not so sure they wouldn't give Zach a blanket party if it were allowed.
Although I'm still pissed that Coach Saleh didn't sit Wilson during the Cheats game because the Jets, uh, NEEDED TO WIN, I guess I should be happy that he didn't go full Fat Parcells/Rick Mirer, shouldn't I.
They’ve done a lot of in-game adjusting as well. I just hope the Jets learn as a franchise how to try to help young QBs and making them feel uncomfortable will help them more in the long run. They’ve now drafted, coddled and handed the keys to the castle back to back top 5 draft picks without any resistance or competition and neither time has the strategy helped the young kids develop as a player.
Agree on logic, theory, and in practice sure; but both Sam Darnold and Zach Wilson were thrown into it out of the gate without the plan in place you speak of mostly because it just wasn't there. Baptism by fire in both instances without all that much to be done, really. McCown, Fitzpatrick, Joe The Pillhead, meh. There weren't too many viable options out there on top of it. EDIT & P.S.: I really wish that Chad Pennington would come on in some capacity. Not as a player of course, duh; but I personally think he would have a lot to offer a young QB. Stephen Hawking couldn't run around the block but he sure knew how to figure out how someone else could win a foot race.
It was a head-scratcher that they didn't dress Huff in the early games this season. He's a great pass rusher, definitely a specialist, it made no sense not to dress him. When he's in, he makes plays, period.
They seem to have gotten the 2:00 minute drill down to a science. This coaching staff is the only one in all my years I actually feel confident they will either score at the end of the half or game and if not will bleed the clock down so the opponent can’t use it.
He's a fat ass bitch who quit when even he couldn't untangle The Mystery Fail of the Jets. The Jets are like the Bermuda Triangle, coaches come in here, they get on a plane, and they're never seen or heard from again.
We, as Jets fan are impressed by Joe Douglas and his in season moves most of all because we've never seen it. We didn't think it existed. Mike Macagnan and every other dingbat hired by Woody were a bunch of STIFFS. The very second a catastrophic injury occurred in any other regime? The thought from the GM was, "Well that sucks. We'll get em next year. Maybe." It's that fucking loser dumb shit mentality. The only reason why Mac didn't ever pull that is because he sucked so bad at drafting that there wasn't even a faint chance at being good to begin with. How that idiot ever got hired as an NFL professional I will never know? It's like hiring Ted Bundy to run a woman's shelter......
Saleh has been making a lot of gutsy calls lately. Benching Zach, starting Bam Knight over Robinson. Keeping the team on an even keel all season. People busted his chops for his slogans and Receipts comment but, right now he's cashing in and the players love him.
